Recapping Episode Eight of Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle (with The LOX and Maybach Music Group)

Last Sunday was the season finale of Season 2: Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle. He decided to go out with a bang by having both Maybach Music Group (Rick Ross and 'em) and my personal favorite- The LOX (Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek).

So Flex and Rick Ross had a bet going on that had to do with basketball. Knicks vs Heat, and of course, the Miami Heat won. The Knicks just became a decent team, but to put them up against the Heat was just stupid. To each its own, however professional basketball isn't exactly New York's strongest point. Streetball- yes. Professional Basketball- we're getting there. Flex decided to give Ross a brand new white Ford Explorer with 24 inch custom wheels, Sony sound system, Custom Interior, Baer Breaks, and a new front bumper.

Like I mentioned before, I was excited when the LOX walked into the door. I loved them since I was a little girl living on Long Island. They didn't discuss any type of cars, but I enjoyed the interview, simply because it seemed more genuine. I can't really talk about the LOX segment, because cars wasn't discussed, they came to just chill with Flex. But who doesn't enjoy Styles, Sheek, and Jadakiss.

Finally the Maybach Music Group comes in, and they discuss music first. Ricky Rozay informs everyone that they are developing their own wheel company. Flex settles up on the bet and presents Rick Ross with the customized Ford Explorer. The finished product looked good, however, Rick Ross doesn't strike me as a Ford Explorer type of person. That's like giving Lil Wayne a Dodge Durango.

I've actually been lucky enough to hang out with Jadakiss several times, and he's an interesting person. From advice to storytelling- he has a way to make you want to stop and listen.

Honestly speaking, I expected more from this series. I didn't think that this show would have been the TV version of his Hot 97 radio show, but in a way, that's what it was. It was more about who he could get to be on the show as opposed to it being about cars especially with a title like Full Throttle.

P.S. If Jadakiss comes out with his own coffee, I'm supporting it.

Recapping Episode Seven of Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle (The New York Auto Show)

Last Sunday's episode of Full Throttle, Flex decided to leave the comfort of his garage in the Bronx and traveled to midtown Manhattan to the New York Auto Show (yes, the same show I was suppose to attend).

At the show, Flex caught up with "next on deck" rappers: Tinie Tempah, Joell Ortiz and Big Sean, newcomers who are making a lot of noise (in a good way) and getting a lot of attention. Tinie's car choice was the Audi R8 where he continued to say that the car is extremely popular in his native country of England. Tinie continued to shine light on how they do things across the pond- when people have enough money to spend on a high end car, they don't customize it in any way, they leave it stock. No wheels, no grills, no tint. The ONLY customization that's acceptable to a high end car is to custom paint it with a matte paint. I see it's the complete opposite in the US. Also Tinie mentioned how he can't ride in a convertible because he's too recognizable in Britain.


Brooklyn rapper Joell Ortiz had realistic and obtainable dreams and went towards the Chevy area where he had his eye on the Convertible Camaro. At this point, it turned into a battle of the muscle cars: Camaro vs. Mustang (Joell vs. Flex). Joell described the burnt orange Convertible Camaro as scary... cause of the orange color reminded him of Halloween. He hops in, giving us a mental picture of how to act in a Convertible Camaro in his neighborhood in BK: drive real slow so everyone can see, especially those who are envious.

The final rapper Flex caught up with was Big Sean, who likes the stereotypical cars that most rappers go for. He went on and hopped into a Rolls Royce Ghost, and then talked about how he aspired to get a Bentley Flying Spur. Flex asked the question "What kind of car would people wouldn't expect you to like." Sean said an old school Impala: ironically he picked a staple in the Hip-Hop culture. Next Question: Camaro, Charger, or Mustang. Surprisingly Sean went with the Charger, and they made their way to the Dodge section and looked at the Charger from the Fast Five movie.

Out of the Tinie, Joell, and Sean's interview, I liked Tinie's the most. Simply because his had the most automotive insight. Joell and Sean's interviews were too typical.

This episode was extremely reminiscent of Flex's past TV Shows, where he would go to shows and actually converse about cars and nothing but cars. Back when he took Lil' Kim to a chop shop and she bought parts for an old school car. Ahhh, memories.

Recapping Episode Six of Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle (with Amare Stoudemire)

This week was episode six of Full Throttle. Aside from the bad acting in the beginning about which is the better sport: basketball or football, this episode really wasn't automotive related. Flex got his hands on a Ford F-250 where the driver lost control and flipped it. He repaired the body, fixed the Cab, custom paint job of gunmetal grey, and airbrushing.

In a way, what was the point in throwing in the customization of the F-250? I may not follow Amare, but I'm pretty sure that a F-250 isn't exactly his type of vehicle. Especially since how he pulled up in a custom grey Bentley.

But the most truthful things that were said in this entire episode was when Flex was saying about how Amare brought back energy into the New York Knicks. The last time the Knicks were somewhat decent, I was in high school. But the number one thing was when Amare stated he wanted to play basketball in the greatest city in the world.

Dumbest question: Why ask a professional basketball player if he likes basketball or football more? Seriously???

After this episode, I'm more excited for that Dub Magazine show. Flex lost me with this one.

Recapping Episode Five of Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle (with Fabolous)

This weekend was episode five of Full Throttle with Flex's Special Guest being Fabolous. The episode was surrounded by Fab as well as Flex's gift to him: 1965 Plymouth Belvedere.

I like Flex's ability to find a car that has seen better days and to flip it to where it'll look good. He's found a Belvedere: a car that's not the typical old school car. Since it was a rare old school car, Fab went with an exterior color on a car that was rare for him to have, since his previous cars have mostly been black. Flex has a huge advantage when it comes to muscle cars, especially the older ones. With the older ones, he can do more with them and show some originality and personality, and it's not the same "cookie cutter customizations" like he does with the newer body Ford Mustang.

They agreed and went with a performance red from Dupli Color. Flex then went to Performance Auto in NY and they created a unique set of wheels that will really stand out. Finally, Flex's crew added a Sony digital sound system, improved the engine, etc. You know Flex never releases the entire specs of a car.

I liked the interview with Fabolous, because it started off about cars and driving. One of the questions was what car did he want before he became famous, and his answer was a Mercedes CLK 500. He didn't exactly get the car once he had the money to. He stepped up and got the CL 500. That "K" makes a world of difference. According to Fab, the CLK gives off the appearance that you have money, while the CL shows that you do have money. Lesson for today.

All in all, it was a good episode. I mean, it wasn't as good as episode four, but I only liked that episode for the eye candy.

Recapping Episode Four of Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle (with DipSet)

This past Sunday happened to be my favorite episode (so far) of Full Throttle. This week, Flex decided to have Harlem's Own: The Diplomats on his show. Jim Jones, Vado, Cam'ron, and my crush for many years Juelz Santana sat down and had a heart to heart conversation with Flex.

The entire episode was DipSet related, even down to the car that he customized. He switched it up, and found an New Model Orange Dodge Challenger that had damage to one of the rear fenders. Flex's Crew repaired the fender, repainted it and removed the racing stripe, kept the wheels, and did an airbrushing of skulls on the hood. Plus he did the usual FMF logo in the seats and the Sony audio system, etc. All and all, I was happy that he used a different car to show off what his shop can do, but adding a wide-body kit would have given it a hotter look.

Recapping Episode Three of Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle (with Nicki Minaj)

The Full Throttle Series Continues, and episode three wasn't bad at all. Funkmaster Flex was presented with a semi-challenge of customizing a Mustang for one of his sponsors- Nos Energy Drink.

I'm starting to notice a pattern when it comes to Flex when he customizes Mustangs. It's starting to look a little repetitive, meaning all the Mustangs are blue with the white or orange racing stripe, body kit, etc. It'll be interesting if he's presented with a challenge (A convertible Mustang that's not blue without racing stripes). One thing I can say about this episode is that they showed the customization process a little longer than usual, which is what the show is about.

The guest for the day happened to be Nicki Minaj. Although the interview wasn't bad, they didn't talk about any automobiles. I do know she was a part of last season, and with that interview, she discussed how she likes the "New School" cars (Ranges and Bentleys). I would have liked for it to have gone towards the automotive side because that's a topic that women rarely get interviewed about. But what can you do?

Recapping Episode Two of Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle

This past Sunday was episode two of Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle. I recapped episode one last week. Episode two had Chris Brown and Cory Gunz stopping by.

Within the first couple of minutes of the show, Chris Brown showed up to the Team Baurtwell Garage tucked away in the Bronx (*smiles*). They talked cars for a brief second, with Chris admitting his love for a particular car- the Dodge Viper. He goes on to say that beyond admiration, he wants to purchase one... and he does. (See the bottom of this post as proof, since I don't want to take away from Flex's recap).

Is it me or is Chris Brown a pretty decent rapper. He's not bad, in fact he's better than some of the guys who actually call themselves rappers. And no, I don't stan for Chris Brown, nor have I met him before.

Between the two guests, Flex found time to go to the Tuff City Tattoo Parlor on Fordham Road in the Bronx, not to get a tattoo, but to pick up something. Then he makes it back in time for the highlight (in my personal opinion), Cory Gunz's interview/freestyle/presentation of gifts.

Within the interview, Cory admitted his love for a particular muscle car, the same one that I have the exact love for: The Ford Mustang. Flex, being the generous guy he is, gave Cory the Funkmaster Flex edition Ford Mustang GT, the same one that he gave to Snoop Dogg a few months prior. There isn't any photos of Cory Gunz and the Ford Mustang, so I had to go with the shots of the one he gave Snoop.

I wished MTV would upload the entire episode since it's no longer than 17 minutes. Either way, my complaints about the show are the standard two: the episode could stand to be a little longer (I.E. At least the standard 22 minutes). With a longer episode, they could have stretched the actual customization of said car: instead of the camera walking around the car ONCE with Flex's voiceover. Either way, I just added Cory Gunz to my list of guys to race with my Road Trip Buddy...

I'll be watching again, this Sunday.

Now, back to Chris Brown. He did get the Dodge Viper, and in fact, he brought it to Unique Autosports for Will to work his magic on it. Don't believe me?

Recapping Episode One of Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle

This past Sunday, the season premiere of Funkmaster Flex's Full Throttle was shown on MTV 2. I've always liked Funk Flex, probably because I grew up listening to him in New York. Plus I always loved his TV shows, where he actually went to auto shows as well as customizing cars for celebrities, and those types of shows have always been my favorite. And meeting him in person was a plus, simply because he wasn't rude, he was actually nice.

So aside from the bad acting in the very beginning (his assistant wasn't very convincing with the few lines she had), once show got started it wasn't bad...

The show was about Flex seeing his new office space and customizing a Chevy Impala for Lloyd Banks and a special guest stopping by while Flex was customizing the Impala.

I did wish that they showed a bit more about the actual customization of the Impala. I felt it was a bit rushed through, but they had to make time for the interview with Banks. I wish that this show wasn't compacted into 17 minutes. I did love how during the first commercial break was dedicated to Flex's sponsors.

Took him a little longer than usual, but yesterday, car enthusiast, blogger, and New York DJ Funkmaster Flex announced his 2011 tour stops yesterday. I've noticed that each year that passes, the tour gets shorter and shorter. Well...


March 19th, 2011 – Daytona Beach, FL (Spring Break)

April 30th, 2011 – Foxwoods Casino – CT

July 16th, 2011 – Edison, NJ

Sept 17th, 2011 – New York, NY (Probably White Plains)

Oct 1st, 2011 – Providence, RI

I want to go to one of them, but I'm leaning towards White Plains or Providence. I'm anxious to see Providence's style of customizing cars. I'll make it to one of these shows, THIS YEAR, and I'm not making the mistake of calling Flex's people to hear about there's no such thing as a media pass... fool me once.

Judging by the lineup, Flex is bringing New York to Rhode Island. Most importantly, he's bringing JuJu and 'Kiss. At least for next time, I know to go into the show with Jadakiss instead of obtaining my own media pass. Flex needs to fix that...

My Direction of Doing Donuts With Bernie

After I sent out the releases to promote this blog, I'd figure that I would explain the direction of where I'm going with this.

Since the age of 5, I've been involved with photography. At the age of 8, I was fascinated with cars. Since 2007, I love car shows, I love going to them, I love covering them (photos and video. I stepped my game up). I love talking to people about their cars. If I can go around the country and cover car shows, I would be ecstatic. And I wanted to do something different than the "norm of Atlanta". If you hear the words "I have a blog based out of Atlanta", it's a blog that has to do with celebrities (which really means gossip). Out of all the celebrity blogs in Atlanta, only a handful provides exclusive content that people actually care about reading. After hearing that a million and one times, you want something different. I don't want to be like everyone else, I want to do something different. I wanted a blog, but I don't want it to be like everyone else's in Atlanta. So I went against the grain and started an automotive blog. The difference between a blog like mine versus an automotive blog like Dub is that I want to go to as many car shows as possible. Nothing personal against Dub, but on their site, they only show coverage of their shows and it takes them months to post 6 photos. Also, I would love to see coverage of a car show where I couldn't attend, which is so hard to find...

Another side to this is to talk to car enthusiasts about their vehicles, including celebrities. Most people, more specifically guys, love their vehicles and love to talk about their vehicles especially to a female. Why not go for it.

Finally, if you're looking for reviews for aftermarket parts, new vehicles, etc, I'll provide that, along with some downloads to music you can play in your vehicle. And most importantly, I'm having fun with this and I do have enough knowledge to really talk about this.

At the end of the day, I want something that I can be proud of which encompasses what I love and something that is unique in the city that I chose to live in.

Take everything that I mentioned earlier and throw in my opinion, and that's where I'm going with Doing Donuts With Bernie... Hate it, love it, or be confused by it, I'm not going anywhere.

Recapping 2010 Dub Car Show In Englishtown

Sorry for being M.I.A. But I decided to return back home for a minute to NY. Originally, I talked about doing the Funkmaster Flex Car Show, but his people told me some bull about all the all access passes (media credentials) were for the "staff". **Note: All of the online photos (Very poor quality might I add) were of the performers. I didn't see any cars.) Plus I had a miscommunication with D-Block, because they thought I was cleared through FMF.



However, I did get my credentials for the Dub Show in Englishtown, and I had a great time, despite the fact that I was a hot sweaty mess. I wanted to go to a car show that was in another part of the country and see how they do it. The South has their style and the NYC area has theirs too . I realized, not learned (remember that I'm from NY) that Tri-State Area loves Imports and SUVS, homemade graphics (they don't do stickers), racing seats, lambo doors, a lot of conversions, and most importantly, hometown love. I met some great people, interviewed some great owners of some hot cars, and feel free to check out my photos to see what I mean.

Reminder: if you'se gonna be in San Diego on May 23rd....

The Funkmaster Flex Car Tour will be in San Diego in conjunction with the Extreme Autofest Car Show. And judging by the line up of the events, this looks like a long car show. Tell me if I'm wrong: The Car Show competition, the live concert, swimsuit competition, stunk bike demo, lowrider competition, car audio competition, lazer tag (not sure how that fits in, but okay), and then whatever Funkmaster Flex has planned. So this looks like an car show that's at least 8 hours of non-stop action.

Would I put a Carstache on the 'Voy??? As eccentric as I am, I'm still going to say no. But I find the concept hilariously intriguing. If bugs get stuck in it, it'll look like when guys leave food in their mustache.

Ridin Music: Lil' Kim "Oh Let's Do It" (Freestyle)

So Lil' Kim decided to record and release a freestyle over the Waka Flocka track "Oh Let's Do It". I actually liked it, it's featured in the Ridin Music section, and it's bumping in the Envoy as we speak. Of course, it's not like it was Track 9 off of her "Hardcore" album, (Let's be real, she could never beat that song).

Funkmaster Flex Is At It Again...

If you’re from the Tri-State area (like me, and yes Long Island is included), you know who Funkmaster Flex is. If not, I’ll go wikipedia on you for a minute.

Funkmaster Flex is most commonly known as a DJ for Hot 97. Following Angie Martinez, he’s on from 7pm-12am during the week. When he plays a song and he really likes it, he’ll drop bombs on the song. The more he likes it, the more bombs he drops. He has dropped over 10 bombs on a single rotation.

Besides being a DJ, he’s real heavy into cars. He hosts the Funkmaster Flex Car Show as well as having several shows where he’s customized one of Ludacris’ vehicles, taking Lil’ Kim to a chop shop, going to car shows, etc. Plus in his show, he informs viewers on new products that they can try in their rides.

Well he’s back with a new show and a new line of Ford Taurus. His show is called Full Throttle, with the premise to be about the hottest names in hip-hop talking about cars, girls, music, while being in Flex’s custom shop.




Now for the vehicle. First he did the Expedition, now he’s moved on to the Taurus. The 2010 Funkmaster Flex Edition Ford Taurus, also known as the Taurus SHO. The purpose behind the customization was to take the vehicle and customize it in a way to preserve the timeless aspect and to make it mature. The exterior of the vehicle features a two-tone black and metal grey paint job complete with custom black 22-inch wheels and Pirelli tires. The vehicle was also lowered with a HR spring kit and a Billet Grille and custom door handles were added. In addition, the vehicle features a one-off front spoiler and rear window wing. The interior was left the same with the exception of adding a black suede headliner and the signature FMF logos on the headrests. The Engine has been replaced with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, which delivers V-8 levels of power (roughly about 365 horsepower), but with the V-6 fuel economy.

Recapping 2009 "Funkmaster Flex" Car Show in Louisville, KY

I put Funkmaster Flex in quotes cause he didn’t show. I went to this show because I thought Flex was going to be there and also cause I’ve never been to KY. I immediately thought that the show was gonna be a bunch of barely customized cars and that was it. I’m happy to say that Louisville proved me wrong.

One of my favs was the Yellow Corvette. It was actually customized- multiple speakers and TVs in the doors,

Yellow and Black interior, ostrich on the seats,

big screen TV and speakers in the trunk. Look at the photos I took…

Another customized fav was the Dough Boy Fresh Monte Carlo. I like how the interior was coordinated and CLEAN. Everything matches wile keeping the old school appeal to it.

But the best vehicle here isn’t meant for the highway. This six year old boy has an Escalade EXT. Let’s run down the list…

Custom paint job
Custom exhaust
Custom Interior
Tinted windows
Navigational System
Custom wheels and…
An audio system that sounds better than what’s in some people’s cars.

If this is what Franco’s truck looks like now, wait until he gets his first real set of wheels. I’m just sayin….
