Phantom Hidden Headlight Grille for Dodge Challenger by DJ Grilles

The Phantom Hidden Headlight Grille is a revolutionary grille design by DJ Grilles that incorporates unique functionality and aggressive appearance. The patent pending removable headlamp covers use a race-car inspired 1/4 turn fastener to secure them to the primary grille frame. The covers have been track tested at over 140 MPH while installed.

The covers can be removed or installed in less than 10 seconds for the pair and require only one fastener per side.

The headlight opening is completely finished around the inside and out of the opening to assure an OEM quality installation with or without the removable cover installed. The grille is designed with stainless steel accent trim that can be custom painted to accompany other modifications to the vehicle.

Guess what? It's available now. If you're interested, call (949) 713-5554. And if you like the wheels, they're Forgiato's 24 inch Dieci Wheels.

The Battle of the Hummers: Ultimate Auto vs The Auto Firm

Mar 24, 2014

Photo borrowed from Car and Driver

In 2010, General Motors dismantled the whole Hummer brand. After the economy tanked, people changed how they spend money on automobiles. Finding Hummers on the road is few and far between, but that's not stopping people from getting them customized.

Within the past week, two of Florida's most respected customization shops (Ultimate Auto of Orlando and The Auto Firm of Miami) released instagram photos of Hummers they've customized. First up, Ultimate Auto and the Hummer H1 that they worked on.

An owner of this Hummer H1 came to Ultimate Auto to get his truck customized. He went to the right place because this H1 got the full UA treatment. Exterior customizations include Full Kevlar exterior, UA hand made bumpers, and roof rack, 40 inch Toyo Tires, JL Audio sound system, police lights for days, and my favorite comment... Enough Rigid lights to light up Yankee Stadium. (Side note: I love any comments that mention the New York Yankees)

Now for the interior... all black Napa leather and black suede, full JL Audio sound system with 3 TW5v3 13" subs mounted in the roof, zero space lost in the trunk and bass for days....

Ultimate Auto was kind enough to give you a instagram peek...

Now, further south in Miami we have the Auto Firm. One of their customers came to the Auto Firm for some work done on a Hummer H2, and of course they received the royal AF treatment.

Customizations include custom satin black paint, custom interior, sound system and 22 inch XD Series Wheels. And if you want to have a look at the vehicle...

The Auto Firm included an instagram peek as well.

But now for the main question... who won this round? Was it Ultimate Auto and their H1? Or was it The Auto Firm and their H2? I know one thing, both shops performed some miracles on these gas guzzling vehicles.

Ironically, both Hummers are for out-of-area clients. Remember, if and when you find a customization shop that does high quality work, please stick with them. That was a PSA announcement.

Danny Trejo and Mister Cartoon Lowriding in the Streets of LA

Mar 19, 2014

YES!!!! Just the type of video I've been wanting to see. Although this video is four years old, it still gives a teaser behind the Lowriding Culture. I have a weird facination with lowriders, simply because it's virtually impossible to throw one together. It takes an incredible amount of time to customize one and they also have a great amount of detail to them.

Everything about this collage says LA, so I definitely know that Estevan Oriol shot it.
The world famous tattoo artist, Mister Cartoon teamed up with Danny Trejo, a world renown actor. The two have a great deal in common- aside from being from Los Angeles and having distinctive tattoos, they have a deep love for lowriders. Shot by Estevan Oriol, Danny Trejo Lowriding with Mister Cartoon is a great lifestyle video to give you a taste behind the art of Lowriding. And if you already saw it... watch it again.

Danny Trejo aka Machete lowriding with Mister Cartoon from SA Studios Global on Vimeo.

P.S. I really want to drive one. Of course I want to ride in a lowrider, but driving one and operating the hydraulics at the same time would be interesting. And I mean a real lowrider, one from the late 50s- early 60s.

One of the movies that's in theatres today is the Need For Speed, based off of the Need for Speed series of video games. However, we're going to talk about the main focus.

The star of the movie is this customized Ford Mustang. According to Forgiato Wheels, "The Need for Speed Mustang features a custom-designed wide body, 22 inch Forgiato Maglia-ECL wheels, and larger air intakes to feed the supercharged V8 engine under its classic Mustang twin-nostril hood. The wheels are finished in a brushed center with a chrome lip. Top 20 Most Expensive Cars to Insure in 2014

Mar 12, 2014

If you could care less about the least expensive cars, we're now gonna talk about the more expensive cars to insure. In case you were wondering how Insure.com arrived at these numbers, keep reading.

Insure.com had the hardest task of all. What they did was compare rates for every make, model and trim level of a car from the top 6 insurance carriers- Farmers, Geico, Progressive, Nationwide, State Farm, and my personal favorite, Allstate. Exotic cars were excluded, but more than 850 vehicles were researched. The averages were based on the following: full coverage for a single, 40 year old male, that drives 12 miles to work each day with the policy limits of 100/300/50 ($100,000 for injury liability for one person, $300,000 for all injuries, and $50,000 for property damage in an accident) and a $500 deductible on collision and comprehensive coverage. This driver also has a clean record and good credit and the rate also includes uninsured motorist coverage. This sounds like the driver is from Wyoming and lives in a town that has a higher population of animals than people. If you're a female that's over a decade younger than the hypothetical driver, that drives more than 12 miles to work each day, and doesn't have a clean record- just multiply the average rate by 2. Sorry, but I learned how to drive in New York, my driving record will NEVER be clean.

Oh, and the number one car isn't from BMW, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Porsche, Audi, etc.

Happy 4th Anniversary to Doing Donuts With Bernie

I really do look like my logo... except my head isn't as big.

In 2010, I had a crazy idea to start my own automotive blog. Four years later, I'm still blogging and covering car shows. Although it hasn't been easy, I'm still here. This year, I plan to remain injury free (I learned that trying to blog with a concussion isn't fun), but most importantly, I'll be attending some great car shows. Aside from some car shows in Atlanta, I have my eyes on covering car shows in Miami, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and of course..... I have to go back home to New York.

To honor Doing Donuts With Bernie's fourth anniversary, I wanted to recap the top 10 blog posts based on pageviews with some updated captioning.

10. All Black Everything... A Chevy Avalanche by CarTunes of Atlanta and Butler Tire.

2014 is the final year of the Chevy Avalanche. Thankfully one of the owners of an Avalanche decided to bring it to the guys of CarTunes of Atlanta and Butler Tire. Honestly speaking, I'm not a fan of pickup trucks. Never have been, never will be. However, this particular Avalanche looks great.

9. Young Dro's Cadillac Escalade EXT

Grand Hustle rapper Young Dro customized one of his vehicles- a Cadillac Escalade EXT. His purpose was to make his Escalade stand out as much as he could... and he did. Not only did he change the chrome trim to rose gold, he added Asanti Wheels, an Asanti Grille with his logo in the middle, and added his name on the truck. I haven't seen Dro in a looooonnnnngggg time, so I honestly don't know if he still has the Escalade.

8. Dub Magazine Releases Their 2012 Car Show Schedule.

The shows already happened with a lot of success. However, if you're wondering if the 2014 Dub Car Show tour will be coming to a city near you, well check out their updated schedule by clicking here. P.S. I wonder what ever happened to The Situation.

7.  Just When Justin Beiber Was Doing So Well...

Atlanta's newest resident, Justin Beiber, did the most tragic thing and purchased a Smart Car and customized it. The customizations look great, after all West Coast Customs did it, but it was done on a Smart Car. Why????

6. Kim Kardashian's Serious "Kar" Game.

This was a complete breakdown of Kim Kardashian's White Range Rover Sport Supercharged that Platinum Motorsports customized. It looked great, I wished the customizations were taken a step further with the interior instead of leaving it stock.

5. Shop Review, Reme Designs of Long Island, NY.

My first shop review, and I decided to go back to home to Long Island and interview one of the most well known (and respected) customizers. Since then, Reme has decided to reunite with his former boss, Will Castro, and now he's back at Unique Autosp-- I mean-- Unique Designs.

4. Interesting Customization: Justin Beiber and his Chromed Out Fisker Karma

This was the beginning of a big customization trend- having your car wrapped in chrome. Since then, the colors of the chrome have expanded, but the trend has died down. Seriously- it's hard to photograph a chrome vehicle outside, with the sun bouncing off the car

3. Darth Vader's Ultimate Car by West Coast Customs

Lucas Films requested West Coast Customs to customize a VW Jetta for Darth Vader's. This episode of Inside West Coast Customs is one of their most popular shows yet.

2. Wide-Bodied Dodge Challenger Courtesy of Forgiato Wheels

Very popular post, and how can you not love a Dodge Challenger with a wide body kit on Forgiato wheels?

And the number one post....

Tragic Customization: Snooki's Cadillac Escalade EXT

I'm so happy Snooki sold it. My opinion on this Escalade hasn't changed...

Here's to another year of Doing Donuts With Bernie!!!! Thank you for reading and there will be more to come...
