Keep Up With Bernie at SEMA

Oct 31, 2011

Sorry for the lack of updates for the past couple of days. SEMA 2011 starts TOMORROW and I will be in the building. I've been receiving many emails, companies inviting me to meet with them as well as invites to special events. While I'm there, I will not be adding any new posts, however if you follow me on twitter: @BeTrueNY , I'll have a lot of sneak peeks throughout the four day event, which will include photos and videos. My press credentials are waiting for me to pick them up and I can't wait!

Vegas here I come!!!! See you'se next week.

Told Ya So: Justin Bieber's Batmobile Cadillac

Oct 28, 2011

Photos by Biebs' friend, Jewelry Extraudinaire (like how I added that) Ben Baller, the guy in the middle

Back in August, I gave folks the heads up about the project involving West Coast Customs and Justin Bieber. Apparently what I stated happened to be true, since two short days ago, the Biebs got pulled over in Sunny California for cutting off an officer. Of course, they didn't give him a ticket...

I'm still convinced that this was a Hennessey edition Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, with adjustments to make it look like the batmobile. I'm not a fan of the whole batmobile aspect, however, I do love the customizations. I would have gave him more credit if he put JB on the grille. You already know it's his- this isn't the first "batmobile", but it would have been the first Biebed-out vehicle. I love the doors opening out- a la the Rolls Royce Drophead Phantom. We all know that I adore a blacked out vehicle that hasn't been blacked out before- like this.

P.S. I just took a look at Ben Baller's blog and I like it. It gives a "life of a jet setter" feel, and his stories (especially of Kim Kardashian not knowing how to roll down the windows in the Ferrari) are great. It's more exclusive than the "exclusive blogs" and it's underrated. Please note that Ben doesn't know me. And you know I added it to the blog roll on the index page. Think I'm playin, Son???

SEMA Preview: Concept One Wheels

Oct 26, 2011

Concept One Wheels released a sneak peak of what's to come next week at SEMA. Teaming up with Continental Tire, they've came up with the Rolling Art Wheels Staggered CS-5.0 for the Camaro SS.

That's all I know about it so far, seeing how that's all they've released.

SEMA Preview: XIX Wheels

XIX Wheels FINALLY shows off some wheels by giving a preview of what's to come at SEMA. The last time I heard from them was this time last year, but it looks like they've been working hard and I can't be mad at that. (I know, poor grammar)

The first wheel design: X21 Wheels in 20 inches staggered.

Looking good so far.

The second set: X15 Wheels in 20 and 22 inches staggered

Honestly, the X15 wheels look better on the Camaro than the S550. Maybe it was the way that the Mercedes was shot, I'm not sure but it doesn't pack a punch like it does with the Camaro.

Finally, the X23 wheels in 20 and 22 inches staggered...

All in all, looks great and can't wait to see them as well as what else XIX Wheels has to offer. See you at SEMA...

Lexani Shows off a Jaguar XJL

The busy folks at Lexani took time out from preparing for SEMA (just like what I'm doing) to show off a Jaguar XJL sitting on their 22 inch CVX-55 wheels. Whomever uploaded the video titled it "The World's Nicest Jaguar XJL", but I digress.

Just a few short weeks ago, Asanti (same company) released my favorite Jaguar XJ that brought a tear to my eye. Again, my personal opinion.

CarTunes of Atlanta shows off a 2012 Nissan GT-R Black Edition

Oct 24, 2011

The hardworking folks at CarTunes of Atlanta just released shots of a 2012 Nissan GT-R Black Edition. The task at hand was to make it sound great and to also make it invisible, and as we all know, they've completed both tasks. To complete the task, they used: Top of the line Focal KRX3 Speakers, JL Audio HD Amplifiers, 2 JL Audio 8″ Subwoofers, Custom GT-R Embossed Sub Enclosure, and Cartunes License to Speed (Escort 9500CI and Blinder). Check out the finished product...

Bernie's Favorite: What happens when you use 10 Sharpies on a Chevy Camaro?

You get this as an end result...

Chris Dunlop, a Maryland-based professional pinstriper, decided to use a different medium and tool. Armed with about 10 Sharpies, Dunlop decided to take his artistic abilities to a Chevy Camaro, adding two extremely detailed tapestries where the pinstripes would have been.

No stranger to drawing on cars, Dunlop told LSX TV that this particular Camaro is the fourth car he's decorated like this, and this will not be his last. “This Camaro is actually the 4th vehicle I’ve done since I started doing Sharpie art. I did a Cadillac in California and a Fiero here last year, then I did a Mustang and Harley Davidson here this year. Each kind of leads to the next. Since the beginning of the Camaro I’ve had a couple serious inquiries. My wife and I plan to move to California at the end of this year, so maybe there will be a whole new market for this kind of customization."

"I tried my hand at pinstriping about 3 years ago, and tried my hand at Sharpie early last year. I’ve never had any formal training- I just learn as I go and I put all my free time into it”, says Dunlap. Because permanent marker isn't so permanent on certain surfaces, he has added a few layers of clearcoat to make sure the ink won't budge. “Sealing up the artwork is a special process. I do use a very specific urethane clear coat, a very specific prep process, and very specific Sharpies. I’ve done a lot of testing to get down to a method that can be done with no problems.”

I love it when folks think outside the box. For more information on Chris Dunlop's work, check out his official site at Pinstripe Chris.com

Please note that this isn't the same person who decorated the Lamborghini Gallardo back in '07...

All I want for Christmas Is the Neiman Marcus Edition Ferrari FF

Every year, Neiman Marcus comes out with their Christmas Fantasy Gift. It's always a car that has a special edition customization to it. Last year, the car they customized came from totally left field, a Chevy Camaro. I consider a Camaro left field because Neiman Marcus doesn't go hand and hand with Chevrolet. This year, they picked a car from a luxurious background... a Ferrari FF. Let's see what Neiman did to it...

The Neiman Marcus exclusive edition of the 2012 Ferrari FF ($395,000) goes from 0 to 60 in less than 3.7 seconds and reaches top speeds of over 200 MPH. The top-of-the-line model features 651-horsepower and a V12 engine, a proprietary, lightweight 4WD system (4RM™), as well as a 7-speed, dual-clutch transmission for seamless automatic shifting. Each car is identified by a numbered interior plaque and unique exterior color, “Grigio Caldo.” The interior features soft-touch, semi-aniline leather with a matching custom luggage set (Perfect for the jet-setting owner). It comfortably seats 4 adults and features a class-leading 16 cubic feet of trunk space. The vehicle comes with Ferrari’s 7-year maintenance plan, and enrollment in the 2012 Ferrari Winter Driving Experience in Aspen, Colorado. Act fast since there's only 10 available. Reserve your Ferrari FF by calling 800.558.0022 beginning promptly at 12:00 PM EDT on Thursday, October 27, 2011. Delivery to occur in Spring 2012.

Some accompanying video for your viewing pleasure...

One year, Neiman Marcus should pick a Bentley Continental Supersport

This Mercedes Benz S550 loves to change her shoes...

Oct 18, 2011

ADV.1 Wheels released shots of a beautiful Mercedes Benz S550 wearing a temporary set of ADV10 Deep Concaves in a conservative 22X9, 22X10.5 figment for the week until her actual shoes are done in the warehouse. The finish is their new Brushed Titanium center spokes with brushed gunmetal lips and inners. For a temporary set of wheels, these look a lot better than most folks permanent set.

Gorgeous as always...

Top 5 Car Care Prep Tips According to Valvoline

Valvoline, one of the leaders in car care (after all, they have spend 140 years under the hood) released some nifty tips on car care as well as some things that people tend to overlook when they're working on their beloved vehicle.

If you're reading this you're likely one of those hearty few that revel in fixing things yourself. You enjoy the satisfaction in knowing that you made or fixed something. While that crooked spice rack in the kitchen may not be your finest work, it represents valuable lessons learned for the next spice rack. When it comes to working on things with engines and four wheels, it helps to know a few of these lessons going in. There is also a very real factor of danger that must be considered. Some errant coriander falling off a crooked shelf may cause a bit of a mess. A mechanical misstep in the automotive world can cause expensive damage or injury. Protecting your vehicle and yourself from harm is easy if you follow a few simple steps before starting work on an automobile. We've made plenty of the automotive equivalent of crooked spice racks over the years. Here are a couple of the things we've learned to save you from making work for yourself.

1. Label Now for the Future
One way to insure that things get put back together the same way they were before they came apart is with simple labels. Some long masking tape and a marker are good tools for marking vacuum hoses and electrical connectors. Mark each hose with a matching number, or each wire with a matching letter. A paint marker is great for daubing identifying left or right marks on larger parts. While changing the oil, a bit of tape or post-it on the steering wheel with the words "NO OIL!" scrawled on it is a good idea to prevent turning over the engine without oil and turning it into scrap metal. Tear the note off only after you've tightened the drain bolt, spun on the filter, and poured fresh oil in the engine.

2. Jack of All Weights
With 27 different kinds of airbags and side impact support built into the doors, even compact cars can easily tip the scales over 2000 pounds these days. While it would be nice to have a two-post rack like the do-it-yourself shop guys on TV, most of us are stuck with a garage full of boxes with mystery contents and only a little space. Never work under an unsupported vehicle. Original equipment emergency jacks are designed only for emergency tire changing—not for working under the vehicle. Use a quality jack and jack stands rated for the weight of your vehicle. Use a wheel chock to prevent unwanted rolling. A wheel chock does not have to be fancy—a block of wood is better than nothing. A set of drive-on ramps is great for oil changes. Never attempt to use ramps or jack up a vehicle on anything other than level, solid ground.

3. Circuit Breaker
Disconnecting the battery negative post not only prevents any accidental electrical shorts, it also disables the vehicle ignition system to prevent accidental starts. The first step is to turn the ignition key to the off position and remove it. This will prevent accidental power ups when the battery is reconnected. Even something as ordinary as an electric radiator fan can cause a nasty finger or hand injury if it starts unexpectedly. After disconnecting the battery place a thick rag across the top of the two battery posts. Keep wrenches or watches away from the battery to prevent arcing power. Warning: Radio and other vehicle settings may be lost. Check your owner's manual to find details on battery disconnect.

4. Mirror, Mirror
This tip is similar to the labeling idea. Always leave one side assembled while working on the other. This is especially handy when working on the brakes. The orientation and arrangement of the various clips, spacers, springs, and shims that comprise a brake assembly are surprisingly easy to forget. A phone call, football game on TV, or other interruption can accelerate this memory assembly loss. While it's tempting to blow everything apart into a million pieces with the 150-piece pneumatic power tool set you just picked up on sale, leave one side for reference is an idea that always works.

5. Wear Protection
The same folks that spend countless dollars and hours shining and protecting their cars often skimp when it comes to protecting themselves. The words "wear protective goggles or gloves" are not just written for legal reasons. Battery acid is corrosive. Automotive potions, such as engine oil and brake fluid, do a stellar job of helping gnashing aluminum and steel survive, yet can be detrimental to the human body. Fumes from canned solvents, such as brake cleaner or spray paint, can cause both short and long-term physical damage. Fortunately, protective goggles, masks, and gloves are relatively inexpensive and readily available. Putting them on and using them is the real trick

Lexani Shows off two Rolls Royces...

Oct 17, 2011

So the folks at Lexani released some photos AND a video about a Rolls Royce Phantom and a Rolls Royce Ghost. The Phantom is sitting on 26″ Lexani Radiant, while the Ghost is wearing 24″ Lexani LX-2 wheels. Personally, I like the wheels on the Phantom a bit better than the ones on the Ghost, and I like the Ghost itself waaaaaayyyyy more than I like the Phantom. Check out the photos...

And here's the video to go along with it...
