West Coast Customs Builds Mustang For Darrell Gwynn Foundation
Jun 20, 2011
The world famous West Coast Customs is building a 2011 Ford Mustang for the Darrell Gwynn Foundation to be sold at the Barrett Jackson Orange County Auction at the Orange County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 25. The car, Lot #336.6, was donated by foundation supporters Tom & Diane Day and delivered to the West Coast Customs team for many unique upgrades sure to astonish any car collector. West Coast Customs will also give a custom matching paint job to a custom built wheelchair which will be donated earlier that week. The car's build and unveiling will appear on an upcoming episode of Discovery's hit show "Inside West Coast Customs".
"This is a project we are really excited about," said Darrell Gwynn, president of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation "I have to thank our supporters and friends Tom & Diane Day for making all aspects of the project come together for us. Being able to have West Coast Customs work on a car for us is huge. People are going to be amazed at what this team can do and we know the car is going to be special. The fact that the wheelchair we donate that week will match the car is really cool. Hopefully this car will auction well and allow us to purchase many wheelchairs that we can donate to individuals in need."
"We're excited to be working with the Darrell Gwynn Foundation and help them with this project," said Ryan Friedlinghaus, founder and CEO of West Coast Customs "This car will have a lot of tricked out features and will be an ultimate tribute car mimicking the Coors Extra Gold car Darrell drove for many years during the height of his career."
Taking design cues from Darrell's winning 1990 Coors Extra Gold Dragster, the West Coast Customs team will transform this brand new 2011 Mustang GT into the ultimate tribute car. Features on this car will include a custom hand fabricated wide body kit, custom one off color matched Asanti three piece wheels, custom roll bar, one off Doug Thorley headers and exhaust system, Ford Racing super charger, Baer brakes, custom hood and body kit, mixed gold and white pearl paint, Pedder's adjustable coil-over suspension system, two-tone leather and suede interior and a custom West Cost Customs sound system.
The car will be unveiled at the Day Family Classic Cars Museum Grand Opening on June 22 at 7 pm. That night the Darrell Gwynn Foundation will also give an individual his own set of custom wheels as 21 year-old Eduardo Reyes of Fullerton, Calif., who is diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, will receive a brand new custom built $20,000 wheelchair that will match the car designed by West Coast Customs. Reyes could not acquire a proper wheelchair through his healthcare provider and at age 21 is no longer eligible for California Children's Services Benefits. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation stepped in to provide Eduardo with the medical equipment he needs to continue his schooling and vocational training and drastically improve the quality of his life.
