Bernie's Car Show Coverage: MidwestFest8

Oct 3, 2024

On September 21st, I made my annual pilgrimage to Indianapolis for MidwestFest 8. However, things were a little different this year...

In the past, MidwestFest Weekend went as follows: Friday: block party, Saturday daytime: show, Saturday night: afterparty, Sunday: Watkins Park then moves to MLK for Stunt Sunday. This year however, the weekend went as follows: Friday was the block party (in true Bernie fashion, I skipped it because I'm too introverted for parties and the cars that do come to the block party also show up to the show), Saturday day was the show (of course), Saturday night was the afterparty (again, I skipped it. I have to stay consistent), and I think they met at Watkins Park but the weather wasn't exactly the greatest.

Aside from the scheduling, the main change was the venue. In the past, it was held at Silver Centre (former mall turned to event center), but they outgrew it. This year, MidwestFest took place at Marion County Fairgrounds and thankfully it was an amazing move. The Marion County Fairgrounds is a much larger space, which means no cars were turned away.

"So Bernie, how many cars showed up?" I was waiting for you to ask... This year, over 1200 cars were a part of the show. You read that correctly, it was purely 1200 show cars, not a mixture of show and spectator parking.

Even though I've been showing up for the past four years, I've seen cars that I've seen before. HOWEVER, there were still a solid percentage of cars I've never seen before. The percentage of show cars is still the same- 70% of the cars would be categorized under big rim culture (donks, boxes, bubbles, American Muscle, A bodies, F bodies, and G bodies). The other 30% were lowriders, luxury/exotic, Corvettes, vans/trucks and imports.

Like I originally said in 2022, if you love cars as much as you say you do, you should experience MidwestFest at least once in your life.  To see the rest of the photos, check out Bernie's MidwestFest 8 gallery.
