Bernie's Car Show Coverage: 2022 New York Auto Show

May 6, 2022

On April 13th and 14th, I finally made my return back home to cover the 2022 New York International Auto Show. Held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Midtown Manhattan, this is one of the shows that I hold near and dear to my heart because it's the closest auto show to my hometown, which is located on Long Island.

Due to the errrr--- Panasonic, some of the automotive manufacturers didn't show. Unfortunately I couldn't enjoy vehicles from Mercedes Benz, Audi, BMW, Mini, Buick, Land Rover, Jaguar, Honda, and Acura. But that just meant that I was able to show more love to those who did come.

The major push this year was electric cars. Most manufacturers showed their electric models but relaxed on displaying their gasoline powered vehicles. Some of the electric models that were shown looked rather... hideous. Sorry, I can't beat around the bush. I don't like some of the electric cars because of how they look. I can appreciate electric power vehicles like the Mercedes EQS 580 and the Audi E-Tron GT because Mercedes and Audi didn't sacrifice design to electric functionality.

Another aspect of the electric cars at the Auto Show was that (and this is going to sound super specific) the City of New York is making the switch to having electric vehicles. Which means.... the Sanitation Department, street sweepers, NYPD, ambulances, correctional officers, taxis and the buses will be making the switch to using electric vehicles.

One of the fun debuts/unveilings was the Deus Vayanne, which is set to be the fastest electric car in the world . Only limited to 99 units, this Austrian hypercar produces 2200 horsepower and 1475 lbs-ft of torque, which would make it the most powerful production car. 0-60 is under 2.0 seconds and a top speed of about 250 mph. Deliveries will start in 2025. I wouldn't mind driving it, I just wished it had more trunk space (although hypercars generally don't have trunk space) and better looking wheels.

Another gorgeous vehicle on display was the new Jeep Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer and I fell in love. The difference between the two is that the Grand Wagoneer offers more trunk space than the regular Wagoneer but they're both luxurious. So I was super comfortable in this blacked out Wagoneer L Carbide and also this white Grand Wagoneer Limited. The white Grand Wagoneer Limited is $110,000 and the Wagoneer Carbide is roughly $80,000 (depending on the series).

Although the show was smaller than usual, I was so appreciative to return home to cover the 2022 New York Auto Show.
