On October 31st, I made my faithful return to Las Vegas for my 12th SEMA show.
The Speciality Equipment Marketing Association trade show will always be my favorite car show. Yeah, technically it's a trade show since it allows those in the automotive industry to see what's new and the latest trends as well as how the product enhances the look of a vehicle, network with companies, lean how to grow your business in various ways, and also hobnob with some celebrities in the automotive world. When it comes to the SEMA show, you can depend on a lot of walking, meeting great people, great weather, and most importantly-- seeing gorgeous vehicles.
Let me tell you what I noticed. First of all, this year featured the most lowriders and donks that I've ever seen. I was so happy over that and they were scattered around the convention center. Not so much inside the West Hall, but outside, North, South, Central halls plus the hallways (since SEMA utilizes every inch of the convention center.) But I will say that it's about time that companies took notice. The exterior of a Lowrider is a great selling point for paint companies as well as hydraulic companies, while donks are a selling point for wheels, the magic under the hood and suspension work. I mean, there's more to building a donk, but that's classified information.
Oddly enough, I didn't notice a "car of SEMA" where multiple companies would use a newly designed model that will be popular in the next year. Last year was definitely the Ford Bronco and the Chevy Corvette, 2019 was definitely the Toyota Supra. This year was more of a variety, which I was still happy about. Variety or not, I will always be happy to attend SEMA. And I will say that this year's SEMA show was much larger than last year's show.
