Drake struggles to start his Bugatti Veyron

Sep 9, 2013

Toronto rapper, Drake ran into a bit of a situation. Watch this...

*Sighs*. I can admit that I haven't had my opportunity to drive a Bugatti, but I'm pretty positive that a million dollar vehicle should start with no problem. Every vehicle starts the same. Press your foot on the brake and either turn the key in the ignition or press the button to start the vehicle. Sounds simple enough. But I guess Drake didn't get that far in the owner's manual.

Let's hope he didn't wake up in that Bugatti the next morning. Poor Drizzy...

Top 10 Cars Celebrities Will Be Driving in 2013...

Jul 3, 2013

... according to Celebrity Cars Blog.

One of my favorite blogs to keep up with, Celebrity Cars Blog, released a list of what they think will be the top 10 cars driven by celebrities this year. Although two days ago marked the beginning of the second half of 2013, it's still a very interesting list...

Range Rover/Range Rover Sport. This vehicle is too much of a celebrity staple to ever go away. You can fit 5 people, still have plenty of trunk space, and it gives off over 400 horsepower. MSRP: $83,500

Tesla Model S. Very luxurious enviromentally friendly sedan. Unless a celebrity likes electric cars, that's the only way this would be super popular, but it won't trump the Fisker Karma. The FK had non-enviromentally friendly people still wanting to drive that car. MSRP: $62,400

McLaren MP4-12C. Honestly speaking, other than Dwyane Wade and Jay Leno, I've yet to see another celebrity drive one. It probably needs more time to catch on. MSRP: $268,250.

McLaren P1.  At first I was only familiar with the MP4-12C model, but after reading it, I became intrigued. I love the curvature of the body (hate boxy vehicles). Has the power to release 903 horsepower, which allows the P1 to go 62 mph in less than 3 seconds AND 124 mph in less than 7 seconds. Top Speed: 218 mph. MSRP: $1.15 million with only 375 P1s to be produced, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Jay Leno was one of the 375 owners. He might as well get a third McLaren.

Bentley Continental GT. Too much of a staple. And even various levels of the Continental body is still popular: Flying Spur, the GTC, and let us not forget: GT (C) Supersport. MSRP: $174,000

Maserati Quattroporte. Maserati finally redesigned the Quattroporte, making it more sleek than the previous model. I always like the changes in vehicles that make it look sleek. MSRP: $130,000 to battle against the Porsche Panamera Turbo.

Maserati Ghibli. Maserati introduces the new Ghibli. At first glance, it looks just like the Quattroporte, however, it's designed to compete with the BMW 5-series, Jaguar XF, Audi A6, the Mercedes Benz E-Class. Basically the Ghibli would be mid-level luxury. I'm liking it more and more. I just have to see it in person though. MSRP: $70,000. Useless fact: In Italian, ghibli means hot air blowing through the Sahara desert.

Rolls Royce Wraith. I'm actually shocked that a celebrity hasn't been photographed with one yet. I first saw this at the 2013 New York Auto Show, and it reminded me of the Bentley Mulsanne: boxy in the front, sleek in the back. MSRP: roughly $318,000.

Lamborghini Aventador Roadster. Too much of a staple in the celebrity world, until Lamborghini finds a way to top this particular model. MSRP $387,000

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. It has extreme potential to be a staple. All of the previous Ferraris have been staples, so the odds of this becoming popular is definitely on Ferraris side. Selling point: 731 horsepower, 0-62 mph in 3.1 seconds, AND uses 30% less fuel than the Ferrari 599. You know you want it. MSRP: roughly 1/3 of a million ($333,000). I would rather get this car than a Rolls Royce ANYTHING, and I'm really not into exotic cars.

It's a nice list, but realistically, I don't see the Tesla and the two McLarens making a huge splash. If it was my list, I would have taken off those three vehicles, and added Bentley Mulsanne, toss up between the Porsche Panamera and the Porsche 911, and the Jeep Wrangler. Alas, it's still a great list, because it forced me to learn more.

The top 10 MOST expensive cars to insure for 2013

Feb 1, 2013

Okay, before I brought you the least expensive cars to insure, but now I have the most expensive cars to insure for this year. Remember, it's based on the averages of the premiums from the Big 6 (Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive, and State Farm), if you're a single 40 year old male with a clean driving record, good credit, and commutes 12 miles to work every day.

10. Porsche 911 Turbo S with a premium of $2925. MSRP $160,700 MPG 15/23 5.5L V8 w/ 536 horsepower

9. Porsche 911 Turbo with a premium of $2958. MSRP $137,500 MPG 16/24 3.8L V6 w/ 500 horsepower

8. Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG with a premium of $2978 MSRP $140,000 MPG 15/23 5.5L V8 w/ 536 horsepower

7. Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG with a premium of $3075 MSRP $145,800 MPG 16/25 5.5L V8 w/ 530 horsepower

6. Mercedes-Benz S600 with a premium of $3158. MSRP $160,300 MPG 12/19 5.5L V12 w/ 510 horsepower

5. Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG with a premium of $3184 MSRP $153,000 MPG

4. Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG with a premium of $3207 MSRP $212,240 MPG 14/21 6.0L V12 w/ 621 horsepower

3. Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG with a premium of $3221. MSRP $212,000 MPG 12/19 6.0L V12 w/ 621 horsepower

2. Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG with a premium of $3330. MSRP $213,200 MPG 12/19 6.0L V12 w/621 horsepower

1. Mercedes-Benz CL600 with a premium of $3557 (but with my driving record, it'll probably be about $4500) MSRP $160,300 MPG 12/18 5.5L V12 w/ 510 horsepower

Mercedes Benz... really??? They owned this top 10 list. But that CL class... it's worth every penny.

10 Cheapest Cars to Insure in 2013

With the new year, also comes lists like this. Forbes released their annual list of the 10 Cheapest Cars to Insure for 2013. Thanks to Quadrant Information Services, they were able to compare premiums for over 750 car and truck models from the top 6 insurance carriers (Farmers, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive, State Farm, and my BFFs over at Allstate). The averages are based if you are a single, 40 year old male with a clean driving record and good credit who commutes 12 miles to work each day. And seeing how I'm a 20-something year old female with a not so good driving record (my right foot tends to be a little heavy), I do have good credit, and I commute a little more than 12 miles to work. C'est la vie..... but here we go.

At number 10 with a premium of $1204 a year, is a Hyundai Tuscon GL. MSRP $20,000. MPG: 22/29. 2.0L w/ 165 horsepower.

9. Ford Explorer with a premium of $1197. MSRP $29,000. MPG: 17/24. 3.5L V6 w/ 290 horsepower.

8. Hyundai Tuscon GLS with a premium of $1189. MSRP $22,750. MPG: 21/30. 2.4L w/ 176 horsepower.

7. Subaru Outback 3.6R with a premium of $1180. MSRP $27,000. MPG: 18/25. 3.6L V6 w/ 256 horsepower.

6. Chevrolet Express 1500 with a premium of $1171. MSRP $27,000. MPG: 15/20. 4.3L V6 w/ 195 horsepower.

5. Jeep Patriot Sport with a premium of $1160. MSRP $17,000. MPG: 22/28. 2.4L w/ 172 horsepower.

4. Kia Sportage with a premium of $1157. MSRP $21,200. MPG: 21/30. 2.4L w/ 176 horsepower.

3. Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium with a premium of $1150. MSRP $24,500. MPG: 24/30. 2.5L w/173 horsepower.

2. Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with a premium of $1148. MSRP $28,000. MPG: 17/23. 3.6L V6 w/ 290 horsepower.

1. Ford Edge SE with a premium of $1128. MSRP $27,500. MPG: 19/27. 3.5L V6 w/ 285 horsepower.

The remix post will be coming soon... 10 most expensive cars to insure for 2013.

Interesting Story: 28 Grown Women can fit into one Mini Cooper

Nov 19, 2012

Spotted on Autoblog.com, I came across an interesting story. In the land of London, 28 women decided to jam themselves into a Mini Cooper. They used every knook and cranny inside the Mini and they underwent extra training and stretching to make sure they beat last year record. Ironically, the same women set last years record of 27 in a Mini Cooper...

I'm sorry, but after seeing these girls don't have on shoes, this totally reminds me of high school. My graduating class had only 10 more girls than this (my graduating class would have been 40, but two girls got kicked out...) and there were times when the locker room would smell like white cheddar popcorn and Fritos corn chips.  Sorry to gross you out, but that's what happens when you read words from a girl who went to the only all girls' school on Long Island.

P.S. I hope none of those girls farted.

Estevan Oriol does Gumball 3000 Rally

Jul 23, 2012

Frequent collaborator to Mister Cartoon, and respected photographer, Estevan Oriol had the pleasure of partaking in this years' Gumball Rally (so jealous). As any artistic talent would, he documented his weeklong journey. From New York to Los Angeles, he captured it all... well most of it. Check it out to figure out why he couldn't make it to one of the stops...

I wasn't kidding when I said that I was jealous. But I also know that my time will come. Patience is a very hard quality to possess.

Interesting Customization: The Game with his leather Ferrari 430

Jul 12, 2012

If you're into exotics, either start crying now, or just click the X on the upper left corner (for Macs) or upper right corner (for Windows).

West Coast Rapper, The Game, decided to take a few photos of his new car, a Leather wrapped Ferrari. I'm almost hoping that this is a joke, but making an impulsive $200K purchase isn't exactly using sound judgement.

The Game just make Snooki's Escalade not seem so bad.

Bernie's Favorite: Estevan Oriol talks cars with Travis Barker

Jul 7, 2012

Photo found on Sanctiond Official Website
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that I love hip-hop. I was always around it because my mom listens to it as well. I seriously bought my mom the Life After Death album for her birthday one year (nothing says happy birthday like a Notorious B.I.G. album). It's hard to step outside of my world with music, but finding a common ground does help, and I'm open to finding a common ground.

found on Grassroots Motor Sports.com

Case in point- Travis Barker. I know he's a drummer in Blink 182, and I know he loves cars. Sanctiond Automotive sat down with Travis Barker, ironically when Mister Cartoon just completed one of his tattoos. But with what he had to say about cars, you have to respect him for it.

Top four things I loved about this interview...

1. When he said "Paint jobs are a reflection of the personality of the owner"
2. A girl he was dating said she hated old school cars, and after she said that, it put a strain on the relationship.
3. How his son is knowledgeable about Chevys before the age of 10.

And the most important point, and it is the reason why I love to travel to different shows when he stated how people in different parts of the country customize their cars.

Great interview Estevan Oriol. Great Interview. I have a new found respect for Travis Barker because of it.

10 steps to tuning your car audio bass by Monster Customs

Jul 3, 2012

Monster Customs released an article about how to tune your bass in your car. Of course, with the advancements of technology, you would think folks don't need this. However, you don't want to be the person who blasts music that you can't hear words to because you forgot or didn't know how to tune your bass. So I am posting this helpful article to save you the embarrassment... you're welcome.

"Before you get started, Get out a few of your favorite CD's. Something with good mix and some low thump content. Dial back on the sub amp gain so there is very little sub in the mix. Turn off any bass boost features in the amp for now. May need a little later, but for now, no bass boost for now.

1. Set the EQ functions on HU to "0" or "flat" (no cuts, no boost)
2. Pop in the CD/tape/MP3 and select your favorite cut(s) and repeat.
3. Turn up the HU volume knob until you hear some distortions from the interior stage speakers.
4. Back off on the volume until distortions are gone. Is best to get out of the car and listen with doors open from a few feet away. If you still hear a rough sound, back off on the volume a bit more.
5. Now, time to add the sub into the mix. If amp has a low Pass filter, set it in a range between 70-120 Hz. No bass boost just yet. If you have continously variable LPF, determine what sounds best in your ears, within the range noted.
6. Bring up the gain on the sub amp, until you get it thumping and hear a "little" distortion.
7. Back off on the sub gain (a wee bit) until it sound full, deep and clean.
8. If bass seems a bit lacking of punch or deep lows, a small amount of Bass Boost, can be added. (+3 to +6dB is all you should ever need here)
9. Again, if you hear the sub getting rough from distortion, back off on the gain a bit more.
10. Now, you may use the Bass Tone control on the HU to adjust your bass from the driver's seat. This works well in simple HU's. But if you have a menu driven EQ system, this is a bit more cumbersome.

That's about it and now time for a test drive to ensure you have the system well balanced and in control. However, if you still have poor bass performance or weak bass output. May try reverse the wires to the sub and see if that improves the overall affect. If it gets better, you're good to go. If it seems worse, return the sub wires to original orientation.

Finally, if you have done all these steps correctly, and the bass is still not getting much bump or louder, and your gains are maxed out, you may have to go back to the LOC's and adjust them, in conjunction with the sub amp gains."

But if you listen to mixtapes from record labels like Get Money Records, Smoke Weed Entertainment, Twerk It Music Group, etc, then this article doesn't pertain to you.

How to drive during downpours

Jun 1, 2012

Because I suffer from brontophobia, I go to weather.com religiously. Aside from telling me when it's going to storm so I can hide from it, they also give useful tips about driving in such unfavorable conditions. Below is a video to how to drive during downpours. But if you're like me, then you just stop at gas stations or bookstores and wait until it passes over. Anyway...

Yes I know that this is Driving 101, but hey, there's someone out there who hydroplanes on the regular.

Interesting List: 10 Most Expensive Vehicles to Own

May 28, 2012

24/7 Wall St released a list about the 10 most expensive vehicles to own in America. They compiled this particular list based off of depreciation, fuel costs, and repairs. And I paraphrased off of their comments, because they looked at every aspect of owning a vehicle, something that most lists do not take into consideration.

10. Nissan GT-R
Style: Premium 2dr Coupe AWD (3.8L 6cyl Turbo 6AM)
True cost of ownership: $117,892
Purchase price: $91,830
Combined (city and highway) MPG: 19

"The GT-R ranks among the top 10 most expensive thanks largely to two additional costs on top of its depreciation. First is the car’s maintenance costs, which average $10,043 over five years — the highest amount among all models. The GT-R also has the second-highest insurance costs, at $22,334 for the five years." Now I'm thinking back to all of those GT-Rs I saw at SEMA.

9. Land Rover Range Rover
Style: HSE 4dr SUV 4WD (5.0L 8cyl 6A)
True cost of ownership: $118,158
Purchase price: $88,862
Combined (city and highway) MPG: 14

"Compared to other models, Range Rover’s biggest expense is repairs, which cost an average $4,214 altogether for five years. This amount is the third-highest. Also expensive for Range Rover owners are fuels costs. Over five years, owners will pay nearly $22,000 to fuel the car, which gets a mere 12 MPG in the city." Most of Los Angeles and Atlanta are in trouble...

8. BMW 750i
Style: 4dr Sedan (4.4L 8cyl Turbo gas/electric hybrid 8A)
True cost of ownership: $122,076
Purchase price: $101,545
Combined (city and highway) MPG: 20

"The true cost of the car is much more than the $101,000 price tag. After five years, outside costs, including taxes and fees, insurance and financing interest, ownership of the vehicle averages more than $122,000. Sales also have been low, with only 118 registrations in the U.S. in 2011." The 750 as well as the 745 is the car people buy in Atlanta as soon as they get a little money.

7. Mercedes-Benz G550
Style: 4dr SUV 4WD (5.5L 8cyl 7A)
True cost of ownership: $126,714
Purchase price: $108,900
Combined (city and highway) MPG: 13

"The car has the third-most expensive fuel costs among all models examined, at approximately $23,500 for five years. The car gets a combined MPG of just 13, and just 11 MPG in the city. The G550 also has among the highest finance interest rates. Five years of ownership result in an average $12,000 in interest. Customers apparently do not mind paying these high costs, as the G-Class has been in production since 1979."

6. Lexus LS 600h L
Style: 4dr Sedan AWD (5.0L 8cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
True cost of ownership: $129,542
Purchase price: $119,019
Combined (city and highway) MPG: 20

"According to Edmunds, the full-size luxury sedan is the most expensive model that Lexus produces in large numbers. The car’s base price of $119,019 is the fifth-highest among all companies."

5. Mercedes-Benz SL500
Style: 2dr Convertible (5.5L 8cyl 7A)
True cost of ownership: $129,588
Purchase price: $106,718
Combined (city and highway) MPG: 17

"Although it is the seventh-most expensive when ranked by purchasing price alone, it ranks the fifth-most expensive model for overall cost of ownership because of its particularly costly financing interest and insurance. Total registrations of the car have dropped dramatically from more than 5,600 in 2007 to less than 1,500 in 2011." I never saw the big deal behind this body style. I think it's the ugliest one out of the house of Mercedes Benz.

4. Mercedes-Benz CL550
Style: 4MATIC 2dr Coupe AWD (4.7L 8cyl Turbo 7A)
True cost of ownership: $142,558
Purchase price: $121,671
Combined (city and highway) MPG: 18

"The CL550 has the fourth-highest purchase price and finance interest. It also has the third-highest cost of maintenance. Sales of the car have steadily decreased over the years. There were more than 3,200 total registrations in 2007. In 2011, there were 980." Of course, this is the best body style out of the house of Mercedes Benz.

3. ALPINA BMW B7
Style: SWB 4dr Sedan (4.4L 8cyl Turbo 6A)
True cost of ownership: $153,150
Purchase price: $133,445
Combined (city and highway) MPG: 17

"The car’s purchase price alone exceeds $133,000. It also has among the most costly interest on financing and insurance."

2. Audi R8
Style: 5.2 quattro 2dr Coupe AWD (5.2L 10cyl 6M)
True cost of ownership: $193,429
Purchase price: $170,175
Combined (city and highway) MPG: 15

"The two-door sports car also has the second-most expensive maintenance costs, reaching $7,370 over five years. It also has particularly high fuel costs, thanks to its 13 MPG fuel efficiency in the city. The R8 does relatively poorly by JD Powers’ standards, scoring a three out of five for both overall quality and design. Despite this, there were 1,173 registrations for the car in 2011 — the most of any year." I'm a little biased about this vehicle, since someone close to me bought one.

1. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
Style: 2dr Coupe (6.2L 8cyl 7AM)
True cost of ownership: $245,469
Purchase price: $210,875
Combined (city and highway) MPG: 16

"After depreciation, finance interest, insurance, fuel costs and maintenance over five years, the car’s true cost of ownership during those years is nearly a quarter million dollars. This cost has not prevented the SLS AMG from being popular; total registrations of the automobile increased from 470 in 2010 to 707 in 2011." I'm sure that owning this vehicle isn't hurting Kanye West.

So the one thing we learned is that Mercedes Benz are the biggest car hustlers of all. If you don't believe me, look at this list again...
