The 2015 Dub Magazine Car Show Schedule... Version one.

Nov 26, 2014

While I was at SEMA, I was able to get my hands on the latest Dub Magazine. Inside the magazine... you guessed it, was the 2015 Dub Magazine Car Show Schedule. I titled this post with the words "Version 1" because the schedule does change- cities are added and cities are also dropped. Enough talking, here's the schedule...

January 8-11- San Jose, CA at San Jose Convention Center as a part of the San Jose Auto Show
January 17-25- Detroit, MI at Cobo Hall as a part of the North American International Auto Show
January 31- February 8- Philadelphia, PA at the Pennsylvania Convention Center as a part of the Philadelphia Auto Show
February 5-8- Portland, OR at the Oregon Convention Center as a part of the Portland International Auto Show.
March 1- Los Angeles, CA at the Los Angeles Convention Center
April 10-12- The Greatest City of All... New York, NY at the Jacob Javits Convention Center as a part of the New York International Auto Show.
June 14- Dallas, TX at Dallas Convention Center
August 1- Phoenix, AZ at Phoenix Convention Center
September 20- Anaheim, CA at Angels of Anaheim Stadium
November 3-6- Las Vegas, NVat Las Vegas Convention Center as a part of SEMA

Thoughts after seeing this schedule... I was shocked that San Jose and Portland have an auto show. Also, I definitely know that this is a tentative schedule because I do not see Miami on this schedule. After last year's turnout and security tactics enforced, I don't expect Dub to come back to Atlanta. However, Dallas can't be the only Southern city for the 2015 Tour. I really want to go to Phoenix. I do want to go to Dallas for a car show, but I rather go there for Forgiato Fest or the Los Magnificos shows

Expect updates throughout the year, because I have a feeling one more city will be added. Regardless, I will be attending the last two Dub shows of the year.

Bernie's Museum Trip: Petersen Automotive Museum... Part II

Oct 17, 2014

While I was in Los Angeles for the Dub Car Show, I decided to go back to one of my favorite places, the Petersen Automotive Museum. The Petersen Automotive Museum is one of the greatest places on earth, especially if you're an automotive enthusiast. Located on Wilshire Boulvard, this museum specializes in automotive history. And after 20 years, this museum will be closing its doors on October 19, 2014...

.... for a complete renovation. Ha!!!! I scared you. Once I walked around, I was able to find out some more inside news. Basically, they're expanding the galleries- going from less than 10 galleries to having the ability to hold over 20, open floor plan, but... the more permanent cars will be in glass display cases.  So it won't be nearly as intimate as it is-- well I should say-- was. I'm interested to see what it'll look like- interior wise. Inside the museum, there's a 2-D and a 3-D rendering of what the exterior of the new museum will look like.

As we all know, I love a great museum, and without further ado, here's my updated tour of the Petersen Automotive Museum... I'm actually going to start upstairs since that's the galleries they always change.

One of my favorite areas since I was a film major in college is the automotives in Hollywood gallery. This time around, the museum obtained the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 that was featured in Need for Speed. Oh, and this Mustang not only has Forgiato wheels on it, it also has a New York license plate.

Meet Eleanor, the only Mustang to ever receive star title credit in a film. This 1971 Ford Mustang was driven in the classic Gone in 60 Seconds.

This 1965 Ford Mustang, named Zebra, was in the movie Marriage on the Rocks. Driven by Nancy Sinatra, Zebra was customized by famed car customizer George Barris

Although this 1951 Chevy Truck wasn't in a movie, it belongs to Travis Barker, who lives in Los Angeles and has an extensive car collection.

But this car definitely was in a movie. This was the Batman car in Batman Forever. FYI, George Barris did the original Batman car, and by original, I mean the Batman TV show... from the 60's.

Another interesting gallery was the Limousine Gallery, because everyone got to see how limos progressed from 1897 to 2009.

This is a 1897 Benz Mylord Coupe. Top speed of approximately 19 miles per hour. Discovered in a barn in England and restored in the United States.

1931 Lincoln Model K Razor Edge Brougham Town Car by Willoughby. Willoughby specialized in building chauffeur-driven town cars for wealthy clientele. But the reason why I'm showing off this photo is that I liked the pairing of the Orpheum Theatre backdrop with the car, and the whitewall tires.

But every single limousine failed in compairson to....

Liberace's 1962 Rolls Royce Phantom V Landau Limousine. He commissioned this custom Rolls Royce Phantom V to match his mirrored piano and had the interior upholstered in genuine ermine. He used it on stage in the 70's at the Las Vegas Hilton and in the 80's at Radio City Music Hall. Once I saw Liberace's limo, I was done.

The next gallery was an opinionated gallery where auto enthusiasts picked their favorite sport coupe. But it's strictly opinionated.

Bruce Meyer, Founding Chairman of Petersen Automotive Museum picked the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe. Thank goodness they asked Bruce Meyer because he would have shut this down...

Adam Carolla picked the 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso

John Lasseter (Creator of the Disney Cars movies) picked the 1967 Ford GT40 Mark III

Francis Ford Coppola picked the gorgeous 1954 Plymouth Explorer Concept by Ghia. That color is gorgeous.

Another favorite, the Hot Wheels Collection... Definitely a must see if you love Hot Wheels. It shows you the process to making one to many of the different kinds of cars.

An American Classic has its own gallery- Mustangs Forever: 50 Years of a Legend. This 1965 Mustang convertible was previously used by Ronald Reagan

The answer to the Chevy Camaro's V8, the Ford Mustang Boss 302 (the 1970 edition)

And this Ford Mustang was customized by Galpin Auto Sports and was unveiled at the 2010 SEMA Show (the first SEMA show I attended). It has a retractable hardtop, custom orange pearl paint, custom leather interior, a Ford Racing suspension kit, and a Magna Flow exhaust system.

This concludes my tour of the Petersen Automotive Museum, and hopefully when it's reopened, you can experience the magic for yourself. Side note: I hope that they have a gallery dedicated to Los Angeles car culture for obvious reasons. Just sayin'....

Top 20 Automotive Photos Based off of Nick Diamond's Instagram Page

Oct 10, 2014

This photo is actually from Kevin Wong's Instagram Page. Great shot so I had to use it.
Off of the strength of the DJ Envy post I created awhile back, I decided to create another one like it, but with another serious car enuthusiast.

Presenting San Francisco bred Nicholas Tershay, but more commonly known to the world as Nick Diamond, owner of Diamond Supply Company. When he's not being the creative force behind the Diamond Life Brand, or running two Diamond Supply Stores in Los Angeles and San Francisco, or overseeing the creation of the third store in the SoHo section of Manhattan, NY, or actively feeding his passion for skateboarding, or collaborating on his second line- the Grizzly Griptape, which is an outdoor line, he's showing off another passion... his love for cars.

At the time of this post, Nick had about 5,900 photos on his Instagram page (@NickyDiamonds). Judging by the posts on  his page, within one year- he acquired a few cars (two of which were Rolls Royces), was on a cover of a national car magazine, did a frame-off restoration, and also had one of his vehicles as a part of SEMA. Yes kids, all of this was within one calendar year. Don't hate, just get inspired.  So now, I'm showing you what a year in Nick Diamond's Automotive world looks like... in about 20 (or more) photos.

Last year at this time, Nick was on the cover of Dub Magazine along with his Diamond Blue Ferrari 458, Range Rover, Mercedes S550, and Chevy Malibu. But out of these four, the star of the show is obviously...

The Diamond Blue Ferrari. In this issue of Dub, Nick stated that he "always wanted a Ferrari but it always felt like something that was untouchable growing up". He finally bought a black one, and thought about how exotic it would look if it were Diamond Blue. Platinum Motorsports made his thoughts into a reality by doing a painted wrap on it since there wasn't a regular vinyl in that color. As icing on the cake, the brake calipers are painted Diamond Blue and the wheels are painted gunmetal.

Let's be real, we might as well refer to the Ferrari as the company car, since it's Diamond Blue. The car stands out and you'll remember it if you see it...

Like so. So why not take this shot, and make a couple of shirts out of it? Nick did.

And made some cash off of it.

Just a Random day hanging out with Ben Baller.

Earlier I mentioned that within one calender year, Nick purchased two Rolls Royces. First he bought the Ghost. Of course Platinum Motorsports worked their magic on it by adding a two tone paint on it.

Then he brought the Wraith and had it lowered and blacked out the silver trim around the windows...

The final new car I'm touching on was a part of SEMA in 2013.

Platinum Motorspots chose Nick's Range Rover to be the first one to get the new Starke body kit and custom wheels, and had it on display in Vegas. And then after SEMA, I believe he made a few small changes....

Now for the fun stuff. Now Nick isn't just one of those "I only like new cars" type of guys. He's an old school Chevy kind of guy. Don't believe me??? First, he has stated that he does own a '66 Chevy Chevelle 397 SS, '68 Chevy Malibu 327 cruiser, and a '70 Chevy Chevelle 396 SS droptop. But he did add a new toy, or two, to his collection. Let's start off with the restoration...

When he first bought this 1969 Chevy Chevelle, it had Daytons, a chain steering wheel, blankets covering the holes on the seats, rust, etc. With a little-- okay I mean-- A LOT of work and a trustworthy body shop, his Chevelle went from this silver rust bucket to...

Snuck in a during the restoration process picture, along with the 572 big block engine. But for the clear after photo...

This is a gorgeous Rosso Corsa Ferrari red Chevelle. And the interior has custom seats in butter soft black leather and wood grain steering wheel.

He also asked his followers what's their favorite year of Chevelle's.

Just an average night... cruising down streets of LA in a 1967 Corvette Stingray that is all original even down to the paint.

So... Nick bought this '66 Chevy Chevelle exactly how it looks in this photo. His idea for it is to paint her black and put some new interior in since he doesn't have a black Chevelle.

But he loves to show off his 1967 Chevy Nova. Nick truly lucked out when he bought this Nova, he didn't have to restore it. Just get in and drive....

Another one of Nick's favorite cars to show off (since he does play favorites) is his 1968 Chevelle. Within the past year, I believe he post photos of this Chevelle more than any other car... Facts: He's the second owner, everything is still original except the tires and the new paint which was repainted to the factory correct color. This car is as clean as the day it was purchased in 1968.

And finally... sometimes if you really want something and if you have to money to get it, then why not get it.

So Nick sent one of his friends all the way to Missouri, of all places, to check out this 1969 Plymouth GTX for him. His friend said it was perfect and Nick bought it.

Stay tuned for my next car enthusiast post...

Bernie's Car Show Coverage: 2014 Dub Car Show: Anaheim Part I

Sep 15, 2014

To me, SEMA is like Christmas Day. If I were to compare my birthday to a car show, it'll be the Dub Car Show in Anaheim, California. After the great time I had at the show last year, I promised myself that I would return again this year.

On September 7th 2014, I made my faithful return to Anaheim to attend my second Dub Car Show.  Thanks to the great people of Dub Magazine, I was granted access to do what I do best and to enjoy some great weather while doing so. There wasn't a dull moment at this show, simply because there was so much to see. There were lowrider, exotic cars, luxury cars, SUVs, trucks, sports cars, muscle cars and ALL of them were customized. Since I was in the lowrider capital of the world, and I also got to see some uber-detailed vehicles. Enough talking, here's Part I of Bernie's Dub Car Show: Anaheim photos.

To see more photos from the show, check out Bernie's Dub Car Show: Anaheim Gallery. Stay tuned, because on Wednesday, I will have more photos to show off.
