Recapping the Second Season Finale of the Dub Magazine Project

Dec 20, 2012

Awwww, it’s the last episode of the Dub Magazine Project.

That was smart to put Machine Gun Kelly to put in the Dub Garage. Duh, it’s only the Dub Magazine Project. I think MGK was a more personable host. Dub made the right choice with him.

During Cash Out’s segment, I was looking at the city skyline, and said that looks familiar… yeah, it took me a minute to realize that it happens to be the city that I live in. Love how he gets his wings- mild sauce with lemon pepper sprinkles. But for real, Cash Out said the most truthful statement- make sure you can afford the car three times over before you purchase it. However, the Fisker Karma didn’t do anything for me in burgundy.

Kreayshawn…  She’s driving a Forgiato dipped Buick Grand National, but the 90% of the $50,000 that the car is worth is based off of the Forgiato steering wheel, wheels, and grille. But that Hello Kitty sticker depreciated the value. But in all appreciation of Miss Gucci Gucci, at least her taste in cars represents her style.

I’ve seen Tyga more not hosting, that I did as the host of the show. I was trying to see what kind of car Myles was driving, but the shadow of his arm was blocking the emblem. Myles did have a point- matte red really isn’t common. The only matte red cars I can think of would be the Phantom that Platinum did and the Ferrari California that WCC did for Tyga.  Even though a motorcycle is smaller than a car, it would be a bigger bitch to wrap. The Dub Garage did great with it. That poor Lamborghini was recently crashed, just a few short days ago.

Another West Coast Customs customization down the drain. At least Ryan got paid... hopefully.

Snoop Dogg…. I thought he was going to have the whole show. I really wished he had the whole show. He drove around LA in a 1963 Monster Energy Cadillac DeVille on his way to a meeting with Sanctiond Auto Products (aka Mister Cartoon and ‘em). I loved the chemistry between Snoop and Sanctiond, and Estevan Oriol’s moment with the camera.

All in all, season 2 was a lot stronger than season 1. Check it out…

P.S. So I guess Funkmaster Flex’s Full Throttle isn’t coming back on???

Recapping the Dub Magazine Project: Season 2, Episode 7

Dec 11, 2012

This week would be the third week that Machine Gun Kelly was the host. Overall, he’s doing good. I thought he was going to start jumping around and acting crazy… But I saw him in that Swift Car… of course, I was paying more attention on the car.

The first segment goes to my Italian crush, DJ Pauly D. If you’re in Vegas, you can catch him at Hard Rock Hotel where he works at Vanity… as the resident DJ. He continues by saying how much he loves cars, and he’s driving around Vegas in a 2011 Mercedes S500, and yes, that’s the one that Will Castro customized. I still don’t like the Pauly D on the trunk of the car.

Cullen Jones looking mighty comfy in a Rolls Royce Ghost. Far cry from that 92 Toyota Camry that was his first car. Didn’t know he’s originally from Jersey, but at the age of 5 he almost drowned, but at 8, he went back to the sport that almost killed him—swimming and stuck with it. He dropped some interesting statistics- 70% of African Americans can’t swim… and yes I am a part of that 70%. I went underwater and almost drowned a couple of times and that was enough for me. So Bernie's doesn't do large bodies of water... or a pool.

Of course, Dub Garage finished the cars for Tony Hawk, but the van still had some work to do.  Tony gave them three extra days and they were able to finish the van, giving him what he wanted- great sound system, off road tires, a ladder to reach the roof, and some storage space for skateboards, bags, etc. I’ve said it many times, but I’m so happy that Dub decided to work with multiple clients instead of one boring client because it shows all that they can do.

It’s Yo Gotti!!! As he rides around Memphis in a Jeep Wrangler… that has no doors on it. Watching him drive around in that doorless Wranger made me nervous. There’s too many “what if” factors. But he didn’t talk about cars soo…..

Jermaine Dupri is still the mayor of Atlanta??? Next!!!!

Macklemore. I like the name. I think he’s the first known rapper from the Northwestern part of the US. No matter how original he is, ironically, he’s driving around in a 1963 Cadillac Deville in Los Angeles.

Watch the episode now and sadly, the season finale is next week....

Recapping the Dub Magazine Project, Season 2 Episode.... uhhh 6!!!

Dec 4, 2012

I lose track of the numbers. But on to the recap

Machine Gun Kelly… I like that background eye candy.

Soulja Boy. **hysterically laughs** As he drives to his “meetings” in the Bentley Continental GT that he crashed in Los Angeles. To be honest, I forgot that his music originated in Atlanta. I can’t listen to his rambling. I think he rambled about buying his first car with cash. He was smart with the whole using the internet to get a record deal, but that was the last time he did anything smart. He didn’t talk about cars (thank goodness), so on to the next segment. I laughed cause I didn’t think people would still be interested in Soulja Boy. This isn’t 2008.

Tyga, Tyga, Tyga… The red Phantom didn’t look bad, but that gold Audi R8… I mean he was the first with the gold Audi R8, but hopefully he will be the last. I wish they would have filmed Tyga’s segment AWCC and not BWCC. BWCC is the time period before Tyga went go to West Coast Customs, AWCC is the time period that Tyga came to his senses and went to West Coast Customs. But I did see Blac Chyna, you can't hide her with that blond hair.

Dub Garage customized Tony Hawks’ vehicles. Tony kept Myles and his crew busy by bringing three vehicles- a Lexus hybrid and a Mercedes CLS 550- those two only needing wheels and tires (which can be done in a couple of hours), but the third vehicle needed work- the team van needs wheels, tires, custom sound system, AND some skateboarding racks for the team to put in there. Will the Dub Garage finish? We shall see….

Brian Deegan’s mode to blowing off some steam looks fun. Although it’s extremely country (he did say he’s from Nebraska), I wouldn’t mind doing that. I’m pretty open to things.

Shop talk goes to Towbin Motorcars in Las Vegas. Chop… I like Chop. He has energy, I love him. They should have given him the entire show. That blue genie was a little scary though. But at least America knows where Floyd Money Mayweather gets his Rolls Royces from.

Atlanta’s own, Future. Driving around LA in a Bentley Continental GT on Forgiatos. I love raspy voices, but I would have rather seen Sean Kingston’s car collection. You asked, I answered...

Next episode has Pauly D on it!!!! And here’s the episode...

I'm just a little excited to see Pauly D. Just a little.

Recapping the Dub Magazine Project: Season 2, Episode 5

Nov 27, 2012

This week was the first week of MGK hosting. He calmed down a bit, and only offered a bit of hyperness. Maybe that’s a good thing. Either way, it was a nice look for him- especially he hasn’t been out for a long time. Wondering if he knows a thing or two about cars, because the previous two host has quite the collection of vehicles.

Grand Hustle’s BoB kicked off the first segment. Driving around in a city that I unfortunately know too well—Atlanta, in a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder painted Matte black. As much as I love BoB, his segment didn’t talk about cars too much, so on to the next one… What's with the first segments of the show not talking about cars?

Time out from the recap… I’ve been seeing a LOT of clips with Pauly D. I hope he’s gonna be on here. And Dub, don’t make his segment short.

Jonathan Davis from the group Korn. I love how he’s riding in that 69 Monster Camaro that West Coast Customs did for him.  What WCC did for him is took the car apart, and rebuilt it as a new car with the old school shell and gave certain interior aspects the old school look. He knows his cars.

YES!!! THEY SHOWED PAULY D!!! Note: this part is virtually nonexistent because I spent too much time staring at the tv and not typing. The only part I can remember is that Myles Kovacs gave him the bike and that he received another one. Basically a two for the price of one deal.

Roadstarr got the hottest cars in LA? I guess that’s just Ronnie’s opinion, but hey, let’s keep going with Ronnie from the Jersey Shore’s segment. So Ronnie took an Audi R8 out on an extended test drive. I have a soft spot for Ronnie, simply because he’s from the Bronx. I have a soft spot for J-Woww, cause she’s from Long Island. I have a soft spot for Pauly D cause of his looks.  But Ronnie couldn’t test out the capability of the R8 because of the LA traffic. He should be use to it by now- the traffic on the Cross Bronx Expressway isn’t exactly the greatest either.

Speciality Car Craft has the shop talk segment. Their showroom looks uber comfortable. Looks like someone’s living room. I would just go there to watch Mob Wives and play pool. (I can’t play pool, so I’ll be pretending.) But the customizations they do are the understated customizations- it looks factory but it’s really isn’t. Basically customizations that doesn’t cheapen the car.

Ron Artest… I’m not gonna call him no Metta World Peace. Is he driving a Ford Focus??? Hold up, is he really driving a Ford Focus and is still trying to rap??? I’m done. Even if he’s from Queensbridge. *drops mic and walks away*

Recapping the Dub Magazine Project: Season 2, Episode 4

Nov 20, 2012

I do like how they’ve switched up Tyga’s location. Instead of having him standing along side of a car like they did with the Game, they at least had him in the driver’s seat of a Bentley. Could very well be the Bentley that West Coast Customs did for him. But sadly, this is the last week for Tyga being the host…

First segment belonged to DJ Afro Jack as he leaves out of a hotel, hops into a Ferrari 458 Italia, driving around a familiar city… Las Vegas. As cute as he is, he didn’t talk about cars, so on to the next segment.

Travis Pastramo was filmed behind the scenes at a Dub Magazine Shoot. Aside from there, he takes you on a super behind the scenes look inside the Nascar world- from the building of cars, on the track, etc. He drives one expensive Toyota Camry… then again, I’m definitely positive that it’s nothing like the one my dad drives.

Dub Garage teamed up with Philly’s Killer Kreations as they take us into the creation of the bike for everyone’s favorite DJ- Pauly D. The first bike  that they did for him was for show, but they’re really redoing the bike for Pauly… who rides bikes just as much as he drives. KK cramed it into 4 days, but will they finish??? And most importantly, will they show Pauly D??? Side note: I loved how Myles Kovacs threw most customization shops under the bus by saying “Dub Garage does believe in collaborating with other shops”

Best Segment: Mister Cartoon started out as a graffiti artist and it inspires everything that he does. Driving around in a 1948 Chevy Fleetwood (Rendered priceless), he takes Dub into his studio—in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. There is where he did his photoshoot with Estevan Oriol… the great, as well as showing off the 1963 Milk Truck (again, rendered priceless). The number one thing I do respect about Mister Cartoon is that with his car customizations to his tattoos to his graffiti, it’s that it’s all done by freehand. No tracing, no stenciling, no Photoshop, no Abobe Illustrator. He didn’t take the easy way out, he just followed the advice that is just as priceless as his vehicles… Practice makes perfect. But I often wonder, what is the newest vehicle that Mister Cartoon own?

The shop segment went to Auto Extremes in Conyers, GA. The one stop custom shop that they do everything… even oil changes. Co owned by T-Pain, they discussed one of their famous projects, the joker mobile- which was a 72 Impala with a big block engine, took about a year to do since T-Pain is so fickle and couldn’t come up with the customizations that he wanted done.

It’s GUCCI!!! Time out—Gucci was in a movie? Oh lawd… I was honestly surprised to see Gucci was really pushing that Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8. The reason why because his past cars were, how should I say it? To quote him, “All my cars are immigrants” meaning all his cars were foreign ones. So to see him driving something American was a change, but then again, he was driving a Hummer when he pushed that woman out of it while it was moving…

Here’s the episode and we’ll see how Machine Gun Kelly does next week...

Recapping Dub Magazine Project: Season 2, Episode 3

Nov 13, 2012

I’ve underestimated Tyga’s hosting abilities. He really not bad as a host.  I actually liked the whole sitting in a moving, drophead Rolls Royce while introducing the segments.

Big Boi takes everyone on a tour of Stankonia studio (a studio I’ve been to many, many times). From there, he takes us to his foundation event in a Rolls Royce Phantom (the same Phantom that’s in the banner photo above. I can’t speak much else because unfortunately as much as I love Big Boi, he’s a nice guy, but he didn’t talk about cars.

Desean Jackson drops off a Bentley Continental GT to Dub Garage with a request. He wants the “oreo look” by wrapping the hood, roof, and trunk in black vinyl wrap, adding  some 22 inch Forgiato wheels, Desean’s logo in the headrests, JL Audio with a custom box (custom box looked great). I like the Dub Garage segment now, because they wasted too much time last year dealing with Shaq. Now they can deal with different people and show some versatility in their projects, and most importantly, I don’t have to see or hear Shaq.

Action Tire in New Joisy, was picked by the DuPont Registry as one of the top customizations shops in North America. Though the name is called Action Tire, they deal with a lot of customizations, and their clientele is super impressive. In fact, because of Action Tire, one of my favorite people to feature got her Cadillac customized…

I’m sorry, I have a slight girl crush on Coco. They showed off three vehicles, but my favorite of all was the 2005 Ford Mustang GT and it was looking GOOD!!!! The owner of Action Tire has a familiar accent.

Travis Barker love of cars is great. I love it. He loves a clean car that he can make his own. The Bentley story was a little baffling because he said that he didn’t believe that he couldn’t own some of the finer things in life. Here’s the thing- if you can legitimately afford it, you can own whatever you want to own. But the one thing I loved was the décor of his tour bus, now that looked great. I have a thing for interiors that are black, white, and chrome- which is a timeless customization.

Check out the episode below…

Recapping Dub Magazine Project: Season 2, Episode 2

Nov 6, 2012

For the second episode of the Dub Magazine Project, it was very Atlanta oriented. T-Pain kicked off the show, by talking about how he influenced some musical styles. But the most important part was when he showed off his garage- Bugatti Veyron (his favorite), A Rolls Royce… or two,  Monster Energy Impala, a souped up Mini Cooper, etc.

The next segment was Roscoe Dash. While talking about his work ethic, you can see him driving a 2012 Chevy Camaro SS Convertible. His segment basically talked about work and going to JJ’s Barbecque Shack.

The “We Baby Your Tires” guys at Butler Tire had their segment. I’m surprised that they went with the Marietta location and not the Buckhead location, but I’m happy that Butler Tire had the opportunity to show what they’re known for. And it did help that they were adding new wheels to T.I. Maybach.  So that was a great look,, and it was a long time coming.

The person I was waiting to see!!!! Lil Duval as he was riding around on his Can Am Spyder bike. He got the Cam Am Spyder because it only cost about $15 to fill it up. One thing about Duval is that yes- he’s doing extremely well as a comedian, but he drives sensible vehicles i.e. Toyota FJ Crusier, and that Scion XB that he once had. P.S. Clay (his manager) needs to brush up on his acting and getting booted outside of Magic City is a very common situation. Yes I’ve been to Magic City

Myles Kovacs’ newest customers and oddly enough they have the cover of the new Dub Magazine, Jake and Jay- Two guys getting the Fisker Karma.  Both had different wants for the new exotic car that everyone wants, but at the end- Myles made sure that they both left happy.

Tity Boi—I mean—2 Chainz finished out the show. One thing he said is that he doesn’t believe in buying cars that doesn’t need to be fixed up. Case in point, he drives Atlanta’s favorite vehicle- a 1971 Chevy Chevelle, but in this episode, he was riding around a Rolls Royce. However, just cause he was 35 when his debut album came out and it was highly successful, I’m not suggesting for every aspiring rapper to do so. Then again, it was his debut solo album, he did have albums when he was in Players Circle, hence the Tity Boi reference.

Nice strong episode and it was almost very Atlanta. But seriously, who is Jake and Jay.

Recapping Dub Magazine Project Season 2 Episode 1

Dub Magazine Project is back for a second season. Last year, I spent the entire season waiting on Amber Rose. This year, I’m spending the entire season waiting for Lil Duval. This year, they made a change in the host. They went from Compton rapper, The Game to Compton rapper, Tyga. Although I love looking and listening to The Game (I love a raspy voice- why do you think I love Big Ang from Mob Wives?), I liked how they went with someone who’s younger (no disrespect) and a fresher face.

Mac Miller segment… they went behind the scenes at the Dub Magazine cover shoot. Mac went on to introducing his co-star on the shoot- a 1964 Cadillac El Dorado. He showed the most important aspect of a car- and it wasn’t necessarily the engine. The most important point that Mac made was… “The car is the most important place to listen to your music” and that’s so true. This segment was less about cars and more lifestyle. Either way, I’m only talking about the cars.

Mike Epps is stooooopid. Riding ‘round and gettin’ it in a 1922 Ford.  He went on to say the difference between a new car and a classic car is that with a new car, it’s taking what you can get. With a classic car, you can start off customizing it to how you want it, which is true. His segment continues with going to the Peterson Automotive Museum, and this was the most interesting museum tour ever.

Myles Kovacs is back customizing cars for people. But this time it’s a more interesting choice of people and ONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT CARS- Travis Barker. Travis gave Dub Garage an interesting customization request- taking a GMC Silverado Denali truck, and ask them to give it the Cadillac treatment, as well as the blacked out exterior. Myles delivered and Travis was happy for it.

Vaughn Gittin Jr shows the art of drifting and I appreciate him for it.

Then they go inside the masterpiece that is Killer Kreations who goes great custom artwork. Their latest project that received a lot of attention was Pauly D's bike that was on the cover of Dub Magazine last year.

Philly’s own, Meek Mill, went back to his hometown to buy a new toy. His choice, 2005 Yahima Banchee bike- $30,000 and he's getting it from his favorite store/ hangout- Lou Racing Custom Cycles in North Philly. Meek Mill loves Lou's Racing so much, that he's willing to come from the other side of town to go there. Sometimes when you love something, you're willing to go there, no matter where you were originally.

All in all- strong episode, but it was a lot crammed into 30 mins. I thought Vaughn Gittin only said 5 words and his segment was over.

But here's the full length episode...

Recapping the Dub Magazine Project Series

Sep 1, 2011

I understand why this was MTV2 #1 original show. Originally I thought it would have been straight cars, but like I've previous said, it was a mix of automotive and lifestyle, just like their magazine.

-Having the Game as the host wasn't a bad idea, especially because he's been on the cover more times than I can remember.
-The "Under the Hood" segment was great since it gave an inside look into businesses that create popular aftermarket parts that everyone loves.
-Didn't like Shaq's overdramatic role. Hope they feature a different client in the next season. He could have easily went to the shop to pick up the Mustang, it's not like he doesn't have anything else to do.
-Still loved Amber Rose's segment. Wished it was longer...
-As far as the rest of the celebrities, I wished they would have ventured from those who already have had articles about them in the magazine, since it felt like the video version of the interview. (See Wiz Khalifa segment) However, it did give an insight of who the person is aside from their persona that they play. I've been around enough rappers within the past four years to correctly state that the things they rap about doesn't necessarily occur within their lives.

At the end of the day, watching this show wasn't a waste of time. There wasn't another show like this on the air, so it was a breath of fresh air.

Now if Dub can only get the media access passes correct... One could only dream.

Recapping Episode Five of the Dub Magazine Project.

Aug 11, 2011

I'm actually recapping the show and typing this post at the same time. I was working Sunday (yes I am an actual full-time photographer. Someone has to pay for my traveling, as well as my bills), and I missed it the episode...

This week's episode of the Dub Magazine Project was mostly automotive related but it gave that fine balance of a automotive show and a lifestyle show. The host with the most is still The Game, and his co-star of this week happened to be a silver Ferrari.

Finally, a great segment that had to do with a celebrity that showed a mix of his lifestyle with his cars. (Cute) MMA fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson's segment started off with his story of how he got started. Having a hard life in Memphis, Tenn, he didn't have much of a childhood. Now that he's made it to where he is, he can be a kid and have toys. When he says toys, he means his cars. He showed off a '69 Lincoln Continental (sitting on 22" Rampage Wheels and Toyo Tires), An Audi R8 (sitting on 20" Rampage Wheels and Toyo Tires), An A-Team Van, Ford F-350 (sitting on 20" KMC Wheels and Toyo Tires, with a Kelderman 12" air suspension) and I did see a Dodge Challenger in the back as well. All of his cars have his name on his wheels, and most importantly, all of his cars are black.

I liked his segment a lot aside from looking at him, but because it was well put together. When I heard about this show, I thought the show would be like this particular segment because it showed a perfect combination of automobiles and lifestyle.

West Coast Rapper Alumni WC rode a dirtbike... I am beyond surprised at the truck he rode to the Kawasaki track in. Who would have thunk (yeah, I said thunk) that WC, would drive a Chevy Surburban that's been lifted sitting on 40 inch tires??? I never would have matched him to that type of customization to a truck. Then again, I don't know WC personally, in fact I never even met him.

Next segment belonged to the corny Brandon T Jackson. I liked the aspect of him arriving to a dealership and had the opportunity to test drive/promote a Tesla Roadster- a battery electric sports car. But before he took off, one of the Tesla employees briefed him about the car so you get to hear about the car from someone who knows what they're talking about. The Tesla can go from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and it would never fail an emissions test for as long as the car can live. I like the sentimental aspect of how he went back to where he got his start, but Brandon T Jackson will always be corny to me. I walked out of the theater when I went to see that Big Momma's House movie he was in, it was just that bad.

I really hope Shaq is acting. Who's bad idea was it to feature him on every episode? The Game should be on every episode because he hosts the show. Myles Kovacs (I keep wanting to call him Ernie Kovacs. I really need to stop watching I Love Lucy) should be on the show because he started the Dub Empire. If there's a season 2 of the Dub Magazine Project, please, PLEASE don't have Shaq on this show. I'm pretty positive that the Dub Garage has less annoying, but more entertaining clients that Shaq. For the final time, if you don't want your car to look like anyone else's, then don't broadcast the customization process of the Mustang. How stupid could you be??? Then again, we are talking about Shaq. Ugh...

Another segment that I liked was inside look at the Galpin Auto Sports shop. The shop was originally founded by Frank Galpin back in 1946 (that was a good year... ) but later purchased by Beau Boeckmann, who provided the tour for this segment. I loved Beau's 1950's slicked back hairstyle, as well as the cars on the showroom floor. I hate the fact that they signed on to do Pimp My Ride, it was great promotion for the shop, but bad as far as showcasing of what they can do.

The final segment wasn't automotive related, it fit the lifestyle mold better. It had to do with Machine Gun Kelly, an up-and-coming rapper from Cleveland who was in LA for his first show. MGK was preparing for his show and the segment covered hours before the show as well as the performance itself. Best part of the segment was when he pulled up to the venue and the fans who were excited to see him as well as when he discovered that he was in the best newspaper in the world (his words, but I do agree with him), the New York Times. P.S. I really love his stage game- Machine Gun Kelly. Very Mafioso.

Here's the episode...

I know one thing, when they have the Amber Rose segment, it better be longer than 2 minutes. I just have a slight girl crush on her.

Recapping Episode Four of the Dub Magazine Project

Aug 3, 2011

This Sunday was episode four of the Dub Magazine Project. The series is starting to become more and more of a lifestyle series, and a smidgen less of an automotive series. Which means I can't really comment, or I chose not to comment if it's not about cars.

The host of the show, The Game and his co-host for this week, an old school, lowriding Chevy Bel Air sitting on Forgiano Ritorno Wheels. This is actually the first car that I've seen him with on this show that I would knock him over to get to. Something about those Bel Airs, but lately I've been seeing them more and more at different car shows (i.e. The Lowrider Car Show (ESPECIALLY in Los Angeles) and the World of Wheels Car Show)

Before a commercial break, Dub pieces together clips from interviews with different people answering the same question. This question had to do with cars, and asking famous people if they have the skills to work on a car. Surprisingly Nick Cannon said that he's worked on cars, changing breaks, etc. But poor Waka Flocka admitted that he can't do anything to a car other than drive it, he doesn't know how to change the oil.

Oddly enough, I like the Skatebording series with Paul Rodriquez and Terry Kennedy, and I don't know the first thing about it. Nike Sponsored Skateboarder Paul Rodriguez pulled up to Ghost Motorsports to get wheels and tires put on his silver Jaguar XJL and it looked gooooooooood. That Jaguar has my heart, even the non-supercharged XJ makes my eyes twinkle. Terry Kennedy pulled up in a Nissan GT-R (insert confused look here), but I gave him credit when he mentioned how those from his area of Long Beach tended to gravitate towards sports like basketball and football, and how he didn't want to be like everyone else.

Poor Ernie and his shop still dealing with Shaq's nonsense and changing his mind about that Mustang as often as he probably changes his underwear.

The extremely brief yet most informative Under the hood segment had to do with Borla Exhaust and how they create their famous stainless steel exhausts.

To still watch the episode, just hit play....

P.S. I'm still waiting for that Amber Rose episode. And also, how come there hasn't been any New Yorkers on this series yet? New Yorkers like cars...

Recapping Episode Three of the Dub Magazine Project

Jul 26, 2011

This Miami based episode was a little different in a great way. The underlying theme, and I’m not sure that Dub did this on purpose, but it was inspiration.

The host of the show was the Game along with his co-star, a black Lamborghini with Savini on the rear. He was looking kinda cute in this episode. (Sorry, girl moment)

I enjoyed DJ Khaled’s segment. It started out riding around in his Baby Blue Rolls Royce Phantom (no, he wasn’t driving); Quick tour of his studio, then we get back to riding to one of his shows in Miami. His segment wasn’t about cars, but I enjoyed it because it was inspirational. When you’re around people who don’t understand what you want to do and just want to bring you down, you often enjoy when someone you may not personally know can inspire you to do great things. And his inspiration to what he does is those who have made it. At times, you need to hear things like that, cause especially in this point in time, there's many people who are out there to steal your joy.

Cool and Dre… Their piece was more of a lifestyle piece which is the first segment that could fit the category of lifestyle. I’m noticing that the new Miami trend is to grow your beard out. See what Rick Ross started… Dre showed off his Maybach 57S, Cool showed off the Saks Fifth Ave Mercedes that I’ve talked about before, as well as the 1971 Chevy Impala. If you go back in time for a second when Cool and Dre was on MTV Cribs, that same Chevy Impala was on that episode. Maybe owners do value their old school vehicles a bit more than their newer cars.

Again, the demanding Shaq is at it again. But does Shaq realize that because they’re showing the customization on tv, they’re going to run into the same problem again, since someone will copy the customizations that was done. But I’m anxious to see the finished project seeing how he keeps changing his mind.

Street Scenes Equipment segment was great because it gave that insight on how to make a grille, even though the segment was all of two minutes.

Gym Class Heroes’ Travie McCoy’s segment. I didn’t realize how eclectic he was. You couldn’t tell by that gunmetal grey Porsche Carrera 4 he pulled up in, but I thought his artwork was great, but again, this segment wasn't about cars.

All in all, I really liked this episode, despite it being more of a lifestyle episode rather than an automotive episode. However, I still can’t wait until the Amber Rose episode. Stop judging me.

Recapping Episode Two of the Dub Magazine Project

Jul 19, 2011

Episode two of the Dub Magazine Project... with the Game as the host with the Rolls Royce Phantom as his co-star.

The headliner of the DUB Car Show tour, Waka Flocka Flame had the opportunity to test drive two cars around LA, courtesy of Spade Kreations. The first car was a completely customized Red and Black Dodge Challenger RT. The second car was their famous green Incredible Hulk Impala sitting on 30 inch tires and butterfly doors. Waka seemed to love the Impala more than anything.

Dub used an interesting test driver for the dirtball challenge- the two feet, 8 inch Verne Troyer. In the past, Dub has customized vehicles for him, like the Mercedes CLK he was driving in the episode, as well as a Rolls Royce Phantom, to make it where he can actually drive it safely.

Car Shopping with Tyreke Evans, the 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year. He pulls up to the Lexani offices, where he burns rubber in a 2010 Fully Customized Camaro as well as looking at the Lexani Mercedes Benz Sprinter, which is an office on wheels.

Shaq presented the Dub Garage with a minor task, to create another car since the Dub Mustang that was presented to him influenced many people to copy off of him. Sadly, I have a sinking feeling that he will be featured on every episode. The most pointless segment of the show

The most interesting piece of the show had to do with Rennen International and the process it takes to make aftermarket wheels. That segment could have been expanded more.

Nick Cannon rides around LA in a Drophead Rolls Royce Phantom discussing why his name is Mr Showbiz... But he doesn't mention anything about cars, so my opinion wouldn't matter.

All and all, I still stand by my original comment... There's too much content jammed into 22 minutes of a TV show.

Recapping Episode One of the Dub Magazine Project

Jul 14, 2011

After seeing the Dub Magazine Project, it was exactly how I thought it would be. It is literally the magazine in video format. That's almost good thing because the magazine itself is a well published publication. The photos look good, the articles provide insight into the person, etc.

(That's a hot photo of the Game, and he's not even my West Coast Rapper crush)

DUB Magazine Project chose West Coast rapper and occasional Dub Magazine Cover Boy- The Game to host the show. I didn't mind it, simply because I have a thing for guys with raspy voices.

Wiz Khalifah talked about his car- how it was a tribute to the his hometown, Pittsburgh, yadda yadda yadda. I say yadda, yadda, yadda because his segment was the exact version of his magazine interview in video format, which means if reading isn't your strongest point, you can still understand the meat and potatoes of the interview.

Big Sean did some offroading. I didn't pay attention to him.

Glen Davis' segment was interesting only because it was funny watching him squeeze into those small cars. He was in town looking for a car and he settled on a BMW from Platinum Motorsport. Maybe he should have gotten the Lambo and allow Myles Kovack's crew at Dub Garage work their magic on it.

Poor Myles and his crew had to do some major rearranging in order to fit Shaq in a Ford Mustang, and by major rearranging, I do mean I have to admit, the Dub Garage did their thing to fit such a guy like Shaq in a Mustang. But the finished product looked great.

The Mack Maine segment didn't discuss cars at all. The most you've seen was when he was pushing a Bentley Continental GT around Miami. Although, some of those girls screaming when they saw Lil' Wayne as he walked down the street with Mack Maine. I didn't scream all the times I've seen/met him. Again, I can't discuss his part, nothing personal, Maine.

Here's the full episode

At the end of the episode, I came to the conclusion that this is a good show. It was well rounded but I'm sure that they had more than enough footage to make this an hour show. Hey MTV, feel free to extend their time. I felt like every segment was only a statement long, even though that was too much time to hear Shaq mumbling. Flex's show had a bit of a personal touch with how his interviews were conducted, but the bad acting, shorter amount of airtime, lack of conversation about cars killed the show for me.

I'll be watching next week...

Video: The Dub Magazine Project Coming July 10th

Jul 5, 2011

The hit-or-miss guys at Dub Magazine have a new TV series- The Dub Magazine Project, set to make its debut on July 10th. Somehow, I thought that the Funkmaster Flex show would have been like this show. Judging by the previews, the show appears to see a visual version of the magazine. One thing I can say about Dub is that they can present a great finished product (the magazine). Their events can use a little work, but that's a different story...
