On August 10th, I was able to cross a show that's been on my list for years... I went back home to attend the 2025 Drastic Car Club BBQ.
Drastic Car Club is a New York City based (I really want to say Queens to be more specific but I haven't confirmed) lowrider car club that's been around since 1994 (back when I was a little girl living on Long Island). I wanted to attend this show for a few years now, and this year, I finally had the chance.
I found myself on Randall's Island (small, uninhabitable island between Manhattan and Queens- used for parks and sports) on a hot Sunday afternoon. I knew what to expect- meaning I knew it was going to be entertaining and I wasn't going to be bored. However, I didn't know what to expect as far as vehicles since I've never been to a custom car show that was actually in New York. Remember, I love the New York Auto Show, but it's an auto show and the custom cars that are a part of that show are mostly exotics/luxury/JDM/tuner/imports. I went to the Dub Car Show in Englishtown but that was Jersey and it was still exotics/luxury/JDM/tuner/imports. I went to DJ Envy's Car Show in Secaucus... although Envy's from Queens, the show did have lowriders, but the show was still in Jersey (personally, his Jersey shows are so much better than outside of Jersey shows, just wished the cars wasn't parked so close to each other).
At the end of the day, I made the right decision to go back home for this show. I was surrounded by lowriders and mini trucks from the New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania areas, Car Clubs from their respected areas and states, the three wheeled stance contest (I didn't get the correct terminology), the scrape/how low can the car go contest (again my terminology needs work), and the car hop (now that I got correct). I definitely will be back.
