Bernie's Top 20 Picks from 2014 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale... Part I

Jan 15, 2014

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!! I know that's a Christmas song, but in the automotive auction world, it's time for the Barrett Jackson to hold their world's famous auction in their hometown of Scottsdale, AZ. What makes the Scottsdale show so great is that it's longer compared to the other shows. Palm Beach, Reno, and Vegas are only three days-- Scottsdale is six days.

Normally I have my top 30 picks from each auction. This Scottsdale show surprised me, because I couldn't narrow my choices to just 30. Honestly, I originally picked over 60 vehicles, and thankfully, I was able to narrow it down to 40. But here's the first 20 that I picked.

At Lot 76, you will definitely see a 1971 Volvo P1800 E Sport Coupe. This coupe has 32,851 actual miles along with a 4-speed manual transmission. This car has been stored since May, 1976. Professional paint and restoration using all OEM parts.

At Lot 88, there's a 1927 Ford Model T Pickup up for auction. Frame-off restoration with powder coated frame. All metal body and bed. Total mechanical rebuild.

Parked in Lot 95, there is a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Custom up for grabs. Powered by a 350cid engine and 4-speed transmission. Beautiful two tone paint and bright red leather interior. Has custom and factory features throughout. Fast and fun to drive.

A hardtop 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS is parked in lot 97.1. True factory Super Sport. This is a matching numbers SS with a 350cid engine and automatic transmission that have been rebuilt to factory specs with less than 2000 miles since rebuild. Bucket seats, U-shifter and SS gauge cluster.

Now this is an interesting pick. In Lot 101, there is a 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagon Carriage. The Benz Patent Motorwagen built in 1886 is regarded as the first auto with an internal combustion gas engine. Patent #37435 was granted to Benz in January 1886. This is a recreation handcrafted in Asia based on a replica.

Lot 112.1 has a 1935 Chevrolet Custom Coupe parked in it. racked and chopped roof and stretched body. Door handles removed and smoothed, doors work on remote. Chevy 350cid V8 and 350 Turbo transmission. New interior, Hidden high end sound system. Air conditioning, power windows, and Bluetooth.

When you arrive at Lot 123, you will expect to find a 1947 Ford Custom Convertible. This 1947 Ford steel convertible in original brown interior. The body is original with exceptional real patina. A nicely detailed Chevy 350cid motor and a Turbo 350 transmission move this Hot Rod down the road.

Parked in Lot 151 there is a 1951 Cadillac Seriies 62 Convertible. It features a 331cid V8 with a Hydramatic automatic transmission, power windows, power seat, vacuum wipers, AM selector radio, clock, Continental kit, Remington wide white wall tires and fender skirts.

At number 9 on the list, located in Lot 162, there is a 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II BT7 Roadster. A left hand drive BT7 2+2 model equipped with triple S carburetors and the desirable 4-speed overdrive transmission. Leather interior, adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen and wire wheels are among the original items of equipment.

Parked in Lot 172, we have a 2009 Ford Shelby. This Shelby has 4000 original miles and it's never left outside. It really is a beautiful car loaded with all the options. 500 supercharged horsepower and it's only had one owner.

Continuing with the Ford Family, at lot 3001 there is a former SEMA favorite. This 2013 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 3 was co-created by Mothers Polish and Formula Drift champion, Vaughn Gitten Jr. Debuted at the 2012 SEMA Show, it has toured the country and appeared in numerous publications, online and TV.

An oldie but goodie located in lot 342. This 1942 Dodge Club Coupe was once a survivor with mostly original paint. And it was a part of the Art Astor Collection. It runs very well, and it's a rare '42 Dodge coupe.

Guess what's parked in lot 365... You guessed it, a 1952 Chevrolet Deluxe Hardtop. This gorgeous Deluxe has an automatic transmission, working AM radio, working clock and new widewall tires. Just over 63,051 actual miles from new. Painted in its original Bittersweet and Sahara Beige.

Lot 433 is currently occupied by a 1954 Ford Skyliner. This Skyliner is a rare dealer demonstrator hood with Continental kit and fender skirts. Recent freshening up in 2012 including paint, rubber, interior repair, and more.

Only five more left.... and a 1957 Chevrolet 150 is parked in Lot 471. This 150 is freshly completed build, 283 Chevy bored .060 over, 4-speed transmission, 3x2 intake with three Super 97 carburetors, all new interior, all chrome and trim, disc brakes, 17" and 18" US Mag chrome wheels and a lower stance.

Lot 494 serves as the temporary home to this very famous vehicle. If this 2001 Mitsubishi Evo looks familiar to you, it's because you may have seen it in 2 Fast 2 Furious. This was the car that was used for closeup shots only, and it has under 900 actual miles on it.

Parked in Lot 501, there is a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T. This is a true 440 Six Pack V Code Charger R/T, B5 Blue with white vinyl top and automatic transmission. Everything on this car has been gone through front to back; it was built to drive and enjoy.

A highly desirable 1957 BMW Isetta 300 Cabriolet is occupying Lot 537. Air-cooled 298cc overhead-valve engine. Top speed of 53 mph (Bernie thinks that this isn't a car, it's a golf cart) with 60 mpg. Concours d'Elegance award winning 4-year restoration.

I love my custom cars, and what's parked in Lot 560 is no exception. Custom metal widebody version of the 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0 GT was developed by Dub Magazine. It's currently wearing TIS 22" modular wheels. It is lowered on Eibach springs and sports special Dub interior with suede trim. From the Greg Mauzy Collection.

Rounding out my top 20 picks is a vintage luxury car parked in lot 641. A gentleman's car, a 1959 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud in original restored condition. Complete new leather upholstery, fully serviced and new white wall tires. This car has been cherished with no expense spared.

I still have 20 more pics and they're ocming up in part II.
